I'm Looking for a
Coach

You:

Me:

You know how to run a business I've never run a business before. In fact, since I graduated from college, I have never held a paying job; I've never gotten a paycheck. I have always worked "pro bono publico" ("for the good of the public," without remuneration or compensation). Mother Teresa is my role model, not Donald Trump.
You want me to succeed. Counter-example: If I were a Nazi with ambitions to turn America into the Fourth Reich, you would not want me to succeed. I am 180° opposite of this, but someone extremely opposed to violence and racism is still an "extremist." I am an extremist.
You only work with clients who have the potential to succeed. I have a tribe ready to energize. I have been writing online since 1997. I have received many letters of praise, some of them here. I have been saving my emails and have over 20,000 addresses. Unfortunately, I only recently began collecting addresses through AWeber's opt-in process.
You only work with clients who have adequate training. I studied law and passed the California Bar Exam. I studied theology and earned an M.A. degree. My personal library of old fashioned things called "books" is over 10,000 volumes.
You only work with clients who can pay your justifiably exorbitant fees. I am dirt poor.

Overview

Details

  • I studied law and passed the California Bar Exam but was denied a license to practice law because I am a Christian whose allegiance to God is greater than my allegiance to the government.
  • While I litigated my case in court, I rented a 12-room house and provided shelter and counseling for over one thousand individuals, an average of 19 homeless people at a time who lived in my home 24/7 for the better part of a decade. I didn't call myself a "coach" at the time, but that's pretty much what I was.
  • I have also used my legal knowledge to form other non-profit organizations which have helped the poor. Here is one.
  • I have been the Libertarian Party nominee for U.S. Congress four times in California and Missouri.

You Must Want Me to Succeed

I'll respect you if you don't. I've been looking for a marketing/business coach for years. An example of the coaching relationship I'm looking for is here. Another is here. Both of these coaches rejected me as a client because they didn't like my extremist views, or my mix of religion and politics.

I'm open to the idea that a professional coach can be objective and dispassionate, and do the job of coaching even if there is no desire to see the client achieve his objectives. But I can't imagine any such coach wanting to try to persuade me to sign up.

Indecision

I need to turn my "coaching" ministry into a business, but it's really difficult for me to do so. I have never been paid for any "coaching" I've done. I think there's a paying market for it. Kevin Nations suggests I charge thousands of dollars per client. I don't think I would be ripping people off to do this. But another side of me wants to continue giving my services away pro bono publico ("for the good of the public," without compensation or remuneration).

This makes me quite indecisive. I can't imagine saying to someone, "I will not help you unless you give me money."

I envision a model in which my coaching time is given only to those paying for it, while my digital writings are available free to those who will leave a comment on my blog, start a blog of their own, or "like" them on Facebook. A non-monetary quid pro quo.

I've been blessed with benefactors who have made pro bono coaching possible. Those days may be coming to an end. I need to create financial stability. I need to turn my ministry into a self-sustaining business, with at least one income stream.

A Coaching Relationship?

I'm 90% of the way there. I need someone with business experience to say, "Do these 10 things and launch!" Running a business terrifies me. Making money terrifies me. I need a coach. I anticipate great success once I launch, but I want someone to be there with me when I do.

You tell me what to do, I'll do the work. Then you answer my questions as this all unfolds.

There are a number of ways we can do this. I could put your PayPal button on my sign-up page and funnel 100% of my gross income into your account until your fee is paid. I will trust you to tell me when I can put my own PayPal button up. I have good credit, but in today's "fractional reserve" economy, credit is theft.

I've thought about an affiliate program on down the road. I want graduates of my coaching program to coach others. Perhaps I could set up an affiliate program through ClickBank just for you, and give you 100% commissions until your fee is paid.

Give me one hour of your time to look over my ideas. Give me a week's assignment that will lead to my first paying clients. I will complete that assignment with rapidity and efficiency. If I don't, you can terminate this relationship. I'm confident that I can get paying clients with your help. I have written over 3,000 webpages and blog posts of a fairly scholarly level. At least non-gossipy. I'm not a slacker. I will make good use of the knowledge you give me.

Can you Trust Me?

Is this a hoax? Will I pay you for what you help me accomplish, and for the knowledge you will give me to accomplish more? Start here to learn about my character. Since I graduated from college I have dedicated my life to providing social services pro bono. I have sacrificed hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential income. If you can teach me how to make money, and give me a mindset to do it, I'm happy to pay you for those skills. I'm not here to rip you off.

An Example of my surprisingly self-destructive marketing style: www.AnarchistBibleBet.com

I just bought the domain www.WouldJesusCelebrateIndependenceDay.com and would like to launch in anticipation of July 4th, 2011.

Why I will not use my personal credit

I don't have the money to buy a $5,000 coaching program. I have good credit, and I'm completely debt-free, but I only use my credit cards if I have already raised the money to pay the bill at the end of the month. I've been told it makes good business sense to use "Other People's Money." In today's economy, other people don't have any money. Using credit means creating money out of thin air, which I believe is an act of theft. I've explained my opposition to "OPM" here.
