Notes and Summary of the President's Address -- Mother's Day

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Mother's Day is a special time for mothers all across America. On this holiday, we pause to celebrate the love and compassion of the women who have raised us, and to thank them for the many years of patience and selflessness. Throughout our lives, mothers are there with an encouraging word, a sympathetic ear, and a tender heart. They set our direction in life, and from time to time they have been known to correct our course.  (continued below)

How the President Differs from the American vision of "Liberty Under God":

  1. The President rightly used his Saturday Morning Radio Address to recognize "Mothers' Day" and promote the ideal of motherhood.
  2. Unfortunately he has not used his Presidential powers for the last 8 years to make motherhood a reality.
  3. Republicans could have ended the stranglehold of Roe v. Wade over motherhood by adopting Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act, which would have effectively overturned Roe v. Wade and possibly created hundreds of thousands of new mothers in America.
  4. The President could have eliminated billions of dollars in foreign aid which is used to kill children.
  5. The President could have let mothers keep their money, but instead took it from them and doubled the budget of the unconstitutional Department of Education, promoting secular education which is at war with motherhood.

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. Today is my daughter Jenna's wedding day. This is a joyous occasion for our family, as we celebrate the happy life ahead of her and her husband Henry. It's also a special time for Laura, who this Mother's Day weekend will watch a young woman we raised together walk down the aisle. It is a joyous occasion for the nation that the President's daughter is setting a good example by walking "down the aisle."

Laura Bush has probably been an unsung mother during the last 8 years.

The first thing the President should have said about motherhood is the willingness of the woman not to kill her baby. Over a million mothers do this every year in America. It will be to the shame of the Republican Party, who controlled the federal government for 6 years, that they never passed Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act, which would have effectively overturned Roe v. Wade and possibly created hundreds of thousands of new mothers.
Like many of you, my life has been blessed by a mother who is a source of unconditional love. Those of us who have been so fortunate are forever in debt to these caring women. So on this holiday weekend, we celebrate all those mothers who help make our country a better place. But then, the President's "No Child Left Behind" program does little to teach America's mothers-to-be how to be good mothers. It is unconstitutional to teach students how to be a "Proverbs 31 Woman," or how to fulfill the Biblical mandate for home education. Mothers invest a tremendous amount of social overhead capital into our civilization -- intensive service that perpetuates our humanity.
On this Mother's Day weekend, we think of the mothers who are celebrating this holiday for the very first time. Few blessings can compare to starting a new family. And few bonds are stronger than those between a mother and her newborn baby. This is also a special time for new adoptive mothers, who have welcomed their children into their homes with open arms and an open heart. We wish all these new parents many happy Mother's Days to come. The President does little to counter the prevailing view that marriage without children is the key to bliss. The President all too often exemplifies the ideal of "having it all" and being willing to bomb an entire nation back to the stone age to get it all.

There is a war between mothers and archists; a war between servants and conquerors.

On this Mother's Day weekend, we think of the many mothers who raised the brave men and women serving our country in uniform. And to those mothers, I offer the thanks of a grateful Nation. Your sons and daughters are defending our freedom with dignity and honor. And America appreciates the sacrifices that your families make in the name of duty.
Alan Bock writes: The culture of war permeates most of our intellectuals. Historians do surveys from time to time on which American presidents were "greatest." Only wartime presidents ever get on the Top Ten. Few historians seem to have absorbed this bit of wisdom from Will Durant, who with his wife Ariel wrote the 11-volume Story of Civilization, once a part of every middlebrow Book-of-the-Month-Club America's library of unread dust catchers:
Civilization is a stream with banks. The stream is sometimes filled with blood, from people killing, stealing, shouting and doing the things historians usually record, while on the banks, unnoticed, people build homes, make love, raise children, sing songs, write poetry and even whittle statues. The story of civilization is what happened on the banks.

Who Counts the Most Important Things of All?
On this Mother's Day weekend, we remember the mothers grieving a son or daughter lost in the service to their country, as well as the children who have lost a mother in uniform. We share their pride in these wonderful Americans who have given everything to protect our people from harm. Nothing we say can ever make up for their loss. But on this special day, we hold them in our hearts and we lift them in our prayers. Hundreds of thousands of mothers in Iraq are grieving the intentional killing of their children by U.S. government personnel.

Every year around the world, 50 million babies are intentionally killed by their mothers, and the U.S. government funds some of these killings. The United States federal government gives billions of US tax dollars a year to fund overseas abortions. The tax-dollars go to the largest abortion providers in the world -- as long as they say "abortion is not a method of family planning." A mere legal technicality.

I wish every mother listening this morning a blessed Mother's Day, including my own. And I have a message for every son and daughter listening this morning: Remember to tell mom the first thing tomorrow how much you love her.
Thank you for listening.

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."

The Democrat Party Radio Address:

Indiana Senator Debbie Stabenow delivered the Democratic Radio Address.

Gas was $1.50/gal when Bush took office. $4.00 today.

Democrats have "real solution," a "new plan" that "puts people first."
Tax oil companies.
Force oil companies to invest in non-oil energy sources.
Stand up to OPEC.

Libertarian Response:

The Democrats should have said something about Mother's Day.

The Democrats should have said something definite and coherent about our need for energy. Energy is the basis for our civilization. For decades, Democrats and environmentalists have been at war with increased consumption of energy. Decreasing our consumption of energy means decreasing our standard of living. It means more sickness and death.
