The White House Press Office:  – In this week’s address, President Obama called for Congress to address the issue of earmarks -- items inserted into spending bills without adequate review.  The President has time and again called for new limitations on earmarks, and the Obama Administration has put in place higher standards of transparency, including www.earmarks.gov.  This week, the Administration updated www.earmarks.gov  with more information about where last year’s earmarks were actually spent, and made it easier to look up members of Congress and the earmarks they fought for.  In these challenging times, working across the aisle to address this issue will signal the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, shine a light on a Washington habit that wastes billions of taxpayer dollars, and take a step towards restoring public trust.

Another Perspective:
"Liberty Under God"
This weekend, I’m concluding a trip to Asia whose purpose was to open new markets for American products in this fast-growing part of the world. The economic battle for these markets is fierce, and we’re up against strong competitors. But as I’ve said many times, America doesn’t play for second place. The future we’re fighting for isn’t as the world’s largest importer, consuming products made elsewhere, but as the world’s largest manufacturer of ideas and goods sold around the world. The Constitution does not give Obama any authority to "open new markets for American products." Nor does the Constitution give the President authority to close America as a market for foreign goods. Americans should be free to buy products from wherever Americans think they can get the highest quality products at the lowest price. The choice should be made by American consumers, not the federal government.

 
Opening new markets will not only help America’s businesses create new jobs for American workers. It will also help us reduce our deficits – because the single greatest tool for getting our fiscal house in order is robust economic growth. That kind of growth will require ensuring that our students are getting the best education possible; that we’re on the cutting edge of research and development; and that we’re rebuilding our roads and railways, runways and ports – so our infrastructure is up to the challenges of the 21st century.    

 

Nobody has done more to mis-educate Americans than the federal government.

Politicians should not be building roads and airports, any more than they should be managing the "information superhighway" or the Press. The flow of ideas and goods should be determined by consumers.
Given the deficits that have mounted up over the past decade, we can’t afford to make these investments unless we’re also willing to cut what we don’t need. That’s why I’ve submitted to Congress a plan for a three-year budget freeze, and I’m prepared to offer additional savings.  But as we work to reform our budget, Congress should also put some skin in the game. I agree with those Republican and Democratic members of Congress who’ve recently said that in these challenging days, we can’t afford what are called earmarks. These are items inserted into spending bills by members of Congress without adequate review. Politicians make bad investment advisors.

 

 

 

 

More on earmarks.
Now, some of these earmarks support worthy projects in our local communities. But many others do not. We can’t afford Bridges to Nowhere like the one that was planned a few years back in Alaska. Earmarks like these represent a relatively small part of overall federal spending. But when it comes to signaling our commitment to fiscal responsibility, addressing them would have an important impact. Earmarks don't increase government spending, they simply indicate that the decision to fund a particular project was made by a Congressman in the legislative branch rather than a bureaucrat in the executive branch, which is actually what the Constitution requires. The problem is corrupt Congressmen, and unconstitutional spending, not the earmarking process.
As a Senator, I helped eliminate anonymous earmarks and created new measures of transparency so Americans can better follow how their tax dollars are being spent. As President, time and again, I’ve called for new limitations on earmarks. We’ve reduced the cost of earmarks by over $3 billion. And we’ve put in place higher standards of transparency by putting as much information as possible on earmarks.gov. In fact, this week, we updated the site with more information about where last year’s earmarks were actually spent, and made it easier to look up Members of Congress and the earmarks they fought for.  
Today, we have a chance to go further. We have a chance to not only shine a light on a bad Washington habit that wastes billions of taxpayer dollars, but take a step towards restoring public trust. We have a chance to advance the interests not of Republicans or Democrats, but of the American people; to put our country on the path of fiscal discipline and responsibility that will lead to a brighter economic future for all. And that’s a future I hope we can reach across party lines to build together. "Earmarks" represent only a tiny fraction of government spending. The percentage of earmarks which are clearly unconstitutional, wasteful, or harmful is probably no greater than the percentage of all other government spending which is unconstitutional, wasteful or harmful.

Once again, the Republican Party leadership has asked Congressman Ron Paul to deliver . . . wait a minute . . . I'm sorry . . .
Congressman Greg Walden of Oregon delivered the GOP Weekly Address		  
Hello, I’m Congressman Greg Walden of Oregon.  
The American people have sent their government a clear message. They want us to focus on creating jobs. They want to see Congress spend less.  And they want government to be smaller and less intrusive. They want health care reform that protects jobs instead of this government takeover that’s costing us jobs.  And they want Congress to respect their will and honor our Constitution. Too bad Americans voted for the same ol' parties who refuse to listen to this message.
These priorities are embodied in the Pledge to America – it’s a governing agenda focused on creating jobs, cutting spending, and reforming Congress, a blueprint built by listening to the American people.  In the new majority, the people’s priorities will be our priorities.    
Having run a small business for more than 20 years, I can tell you that no turnaround succeeds without a change in culture.  For too long, Washington has been doing what’s best for Washington, and they get away with it. Too often, accountability counts for nothing, and transparency for even less, and common sense -- well, it’s an endangered species.  
That’s why our leader, John Boehner, has pledged to run the House of Representatives differently than it’s been run in the past – by both parties. And he’s asked me to lead a transition effort designed to ensure our new majority will be ready to serve as the people’s voice and implement the proposals that Americans are demanding.  
So we’ve assembled a transition team of proven reformers, including citizens newly elected to Congress who’ve jumped at the opportunity to begin changing Congress before being sworn-in.  
The incoming Republican freshman class – well it’s no ordinary group: nearly half of its roughly 80 members have never served in elective office before.   
So they bring a fresh perspective and a lot of the energy, intelligence and experience that we want to incorporate into how we implement reforms that give the government back to the people.  
And for this reason, we’re not only including them in the transition to a new majority, but also giving them a seat at the leadership table in the next Congress.  
We’ve already begun initiating changes to open up the people’s House, including installing public cameras in the powerful Rules Committee.  That’s where they decide which bills and which amendments come to the floor for a vote.  
We’re evaluating how Congress operates to make sure there’s time for lawmakers to actually read the bills before they’re voted on and to make certain every one of those bills contains a clear citation of constitutional authority.  "Read the Bills Act" (RTBA)

We want taxpayers to be able to keep tabs on bills as they’re being written and hearings as they’re happening.  We’ve got the people’s business to do, and the people have the right to watch that business being done.  
And we’re also tracking down every last rule and roadblock rigged to keep government’s spending binge on auto-pilot. If we’re ever going to change the broken status quo, we need to make it easier to cut spending and harder to increase it.
And we’re searching for savings so we can cut the cost of Congress, and make this institution more efficient.  As is the case for any business seeking a turnaround, there won’t be any sacred cows here.		 Mussolini is said to have "made the trains run on time." Hitler was very "efficient." We need to question the entire existence of this institution, not make it more "efficient."

How the Two Major Parties Differ from

      • The "experiment" was a success: a Free Market made America the most prosperous and admired nation in history. "Capitalism" means freedom.
    • In the 20th century, the experiment in liberty was replaced with another experiment: an experiment in central planning
    • The original American dream of personal, private ownership, has been replaced with private indebtedness and public control.
    • The Invisible Hand of the Free Market works better than the Visible Fist of Government
    • America was founded on the philosophy of "Liberty Under God."
      • "Liberty" means freedom from government suppression of ideas and confiscation of wealth
      • "Under God" means we have a personal responsibility to love God and neighbor.
    • The original American Dream: Everyone dwelling safely under his own Vine & Fig Tree
      • Human beings are endowed with the right to property by God, not the government.
    • America was founded as a "City upon a Hill," a Christian nation from which the Gospel would be promoted around the world, and the "blessings of liberty" would cover the planet.

    • Bush's unconstitutional military invasion of Iraq has destroyed Christianity in that country.
      • Under Saddam Hussein's secular government, Christians in Iraq had greater freedom than in most other Arab nations, and one of the largest Christian populations in the Muslim world was in Iraq.

The word "Christ" means "King." The Message of Christmas and the Principles set forth by the Christ (the Messiah) who came that first Christmas are the real solution to America's problems. The Federal Government is at war with Christmas and "The Way of Peace" announced by the Prince of Peace. The Government should be on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6-7). Abolishing a Messianic State is the only appropriate way to honor the Messiah. Otherwise Christmas becomes mass hypocrisy.

 Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others.

When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power):  he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
 Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.

Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

Can you convince us that your own personal financial situation would not create a conflict of interest when it came to choosing between the public's needs and your own needs?		 1. 4. My personal financial situation is living in poverty. If elected, I would stage "money bombs" and other programs to raise money to make sure that -- just as environmentalists worry about "carbon footprints" -- I would not leave a "taxpayer footprint" in my wake. In other words, as much as possible, I would not compel taxpayers to pay for my presence in Washington D.C. This means following Ron Paul's practice of returning the bulk of the allocated money for Congressional Staff. It doesn't take a large staff to follow the Constitution, only to meet and deal with lobbyists. There will be none of that in my office. I have formed a non-profit organization to do the work of spreading the vision of "Vine & Fig Tree," and I would work through that organization to accomplish my goals, and not use extortion to raise money from taxpayers.

What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?

The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.

Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.

America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.

Muskets are Not an Option

There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.

Revolution Won't Come in a Day

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."

Now, with 40 years of experience, we know that they do the exact opposite.
End Asset Forfeiture
If the government suspects you used your house or car in a crime, they can take it and sell it at auction. They don't even have to prove your guilt. They call this practice civil asset forfeiture, but it's really theft. It violates the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 14th Amendments. It also encourages law enforcement to put profits before justice.
