Transcript and Analysis of the President's Weekly Radio Address:
"The Republican Corporate Power Grab"

The White House Press Office:  – In this week’s address, President Obama called out the Republican leadership in Congress for defending the entrenched special interests and the status quo.  After the Supreme Court overturned decades of law and precedent in the Citizens United decision, the administration tried to fix the new loopholes in the campaign finance system with a common sense law.  This law would require public disclosure of who funds political ads and it would restrict foreign controlled corporations from spending to influence elections.  But, the GOP leadership has blocked a vote on the law in the Senate in hopes that the special interests will reward them by funding attack ads against their opponents.

President Obama's
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

Back in January, in my State of the Union Address, I warned of the danger posed by a Supreme Court ruling called Citizens United. This decision overturned decades of law and precedent. It gave the special interests the power to spend without limit – and without public disclosure – to run ads in order to influence elections.  Brown vs. Board of Education "overturned decades of law and precedent." Most people think that was a good thing.
Most voters today are "special interests." They want the government to give them money which is special to them, and not given to all Americans generally. But in this case Obama is calling everyone who wants to run an ad against an incumbent a "special interest."
"Free speech" costs money. "Freedom of the press" requires that you be able to own a printing press. Or rent one.
"Public disclosure" means compulsory speech. The government forces you to say what the government wants you to say.
Obama does not want Americans to be able to "influence elections." That certainly is convenient -- for those who have already been elected.
Now, as an election approaches, it’s not just a theory. We can see for ourselves how destructive to our democracy this can become. We see it in the flood of deceptive attack ads sponsored by special interests using front groups with misleading names. We don’t know who’s behind these ads or who’s paying for them. Even foreign-controlled corporations seeking to influence our democracy are able to spend freely in order to swing an election toward a candidate they prefer.  If these ads are sponsored by groups with "misleading names," why is Obama so smart that he has not been misled, but the rest of Americans are too dumb to avoid being fooled?

Suppose an American candidate in 1938 was a Nazi, and supported Adolph Hitler, but most Americans didn't know this. Suppose a Polish corporation sponsored an ad against this candidate because they didn't want Hitler to invade Poland. Is the unalienable right of free speech given to the people of Poland by God, or by Obama?

We’ve tried to fix this with a new law – one that would simply require that you say who you are and who’s paying for your ad. This way, voters are able to make an informed judgment about a group’s motivations. Anyone running these ads would have to stand by their claims.

And foreign-controlled corporations would be restricted from spending money to influence elections, just as they were before the Supreme Court opened up this loophole.

  1. "simply require that you worship..."
  2. "simply require that you register your guns..."
  3. "simply require that you give troops the extra guest room in your house..."
  4. "simply require that you allow a government search..."
  5. "simply require that you go through another trial...
  6. "simply require that you wait a while for your trial to be conducted in secret...."

etc. Compulsory speech is a violation of the First Amendment. Even the Supreme Court got this right.

Should Congress be allowed to pass a law that says a woman named Norma Baker should not be allowed to appear in any movie under the name "Marilyn Monroe" unless forced to "disclose" this fact? Then why should Congress be allowed to pass a law that says a Meetup Group or a bowling league or a neighborhood association or a small business or a large business cannot buy air time under the name "Citizens United [for or against] [Anything]?"

The Court in Brown vs. Board of Education "opened up a loophole" that allowed black kids to attend white schools.

This is common sense. In fact, this is the kind of proposal that Democrats and Republicans have agreed on for decades. Yet, the Republican leaders in Congress have so far said “no.” They’ve blocked this bill from even coming up for a vote in the Senate. It’s politics at its worst. But it’s not hard to understand why.  This is the kind of proposal that Democrats and Republican incumbents have agreed on for decades.

No surprise there. Incumbents would like to ban all ads against them.

Over the past two years, we have fought back against the entrenched special interests – weakening their hold on the levers of power in Washington. We have taken a stand against the worst abuses of the financial industry and health insurance companies. We’ve rolled back tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. And we’ve restored enforcement of common sense rules to protect clean air and clean water. We have refused to go along with business as usual.  The financial industry has received hundreds of billions of tax dollars to stay afloat when they should have gone belly up. The insurance companies now have a law that forces Americans to buy their products even if Americans don't want to. How is this "standing up against" special interests? Instead of having to change the way they do business to take personal responsibility and avoid going bankrupt, these special interests can now do "business as usual."
Now, the special interests want to take Congress back, and return to the days when lobbyists wrote the laws. And a partisan minority in Congress is hoping their defense of these special interests and the status quo will be rewarded with a flood of negative ads against their opponents. It’s a power grab, pure and simple. They’re hoping they can ride this wave of unchecked influence all the way to victory.  The federal government does not have the right under the Constitution to "check influence." To decide who gets to influence other people and who does not.
What is clear is that Congress has a responsibility to act. But the truth is, any law will come too late to prevent the damage that has already been done this election season. That is why, any time you see an attack ad by one of these shadowy groups, you should ask yourself, who is paying for this ad? Is it the health insurance lobby? The oil industry? The credit card companies?  What is clear is that Congress has no Constitutional authority to act, to prevent anyone from using the freedom of the press.

Yes, voters should ask questions. That makes voters stronger and healthier. Having the government ask all the questions and force its answers on the voters makes for weak voters and strong governments.

But more than that, you can make sure that the tens of millions of dollars spent on misleading ads do not drown out your voice. Because no matter how many ads they run – no matter how many elections they try to buy – the power to determine the fate of this country doesn’t lie in their hands. It lies in yours. It’s up to all of us to defend that most basic American principle of a government of, by, and for the people. What’s at stake is not just an election. It’s our democracy itself.  The Supreme Court overturned what some analysts called "The Incumbent Protection Act." Rules and regulations are costly for big, well-funded corporations, but those same rules are prohibitive for you and your friends.

See the analysis from our platform here: Campaign Finance

Thank you. The basic belief of Obama is that voters should only be allowed to think about issues which incumbents want them to think about. Voters are stupid, gullible, and easily misled by corporations who don't like the incumbent.
The First Amendment says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
No Law. Not even the "DISCLOSE" Act.

The Republican Party Radio Address:

[today's video not yet posted on YouTube]

Response of the Republican Party
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Once again, the Republican Party leadership has asked Congressman Ron Paul to deliver . . . wait a minute . . . I'm sorry . . .
Rep. Greg Walden, Congressman from Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District, delivered the GOP Weekly Address

Hello, I’m Representative Greg Walden, and I work for the people of Oregon’s Second Congressional District.
Before being sent to Congress, like many Americans, I worked for myself.  My wife and I were small business owners for nearly 22 years.  So we know what it’s like to sign the front of a payroll check, and scratch out a business plan on the back of a napkin.
You know, it’s this entrepreneurial spirit, unfortunately, [that] is lost on the powers-that-be in Washington, who think that change comes in the form of 2,000-page monstrosities that transfer money and freedom from the people to the government.
Americans have had enough of permanent bailouts, government takeovers, and ‘stimulus’ spending sprees.  Democrats’ job-killing policies have left our small businesses tied up in uncertainty and our economy bogged down by nearly 10 percent unemployment.
America is speaking out, and it’s time Washington started listening. Republicans have warned that excessive government spending, along with uncertainty facing small businesses, are hampering job creation in America, and we’ve called for bipartisan action this month to address both of these issues.
First, Republicans want to stop all of the tax hikes that are set to take effect on January 1st. Now, for his part, President Obama proposes raising taxes on half of small business income in America.  But economists, and frankly, a growing chorus of Democrats in Congress, agree with us that raising taxes on anyone in a struggling economy – especially small businesses – is the exact wrong thing to do.
Next, Republicans want to cut non-security government spending to 2008 levels, before all of the bailouts, before the government takeovers and the ‘stimulus’ spending sprees began.
You know, American families and small businesses have been making really tough choices over the last couple of years to cut back spending and to adjust to this new economic reality.  Why should the federal government be any different?   Our plan saves taxpayers nearly $100 billion and represents a first step on the path to fiscal sanity so that we can stop piling debt on our kids and grandkids.  $100 billion is about one-fourth of one-tenth of the federal budget. No "plan" is worth considering that does not cut at least a trillion dollars from the federal budget.
“Now, with just days remaining in this legislative session, House Republican Leader John Boehner has informed Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Republicans are ready to work together to enact this two-point jobs plan immediately.
Even as we seek to act quickly, we must also act openly.  You know, taxpayers were rightly outraged when Democratic Leaders tried to short-circuit the rules and rig the final vote to force President Obama’s government takeover of health care through Congress.
The American people didn’t stand for this power grab then, and they won’t stand for it now – especially with their jobs, their families, and their futures at stake.
That’s why Leader Boehner has asked Speaker Pelosi to assure the American people that she will allow nothing short of a full up-or-down vote on bills to cut spending and stop all of the looming tax hikes.
This way, the will of the people and their elected representatives can be heard.  Anything less fails our economy and provides further evidence that Democrats are more committed to preserving their power than helping our economy.
If President Obama and Washington Democrats are truly focused on creating jobs, we should take action immediately to cut government spending and stop all of these impending tax hikes.
And if Speaker Pelosi will allow up-or-down votes on these priorities this month, we can show the American people we’re listening and ready to put their best interests – those of our constituents – the people we work for – first.  Thank you for your time.      ####

What Ozarks Candidates Are Saying About These Issues

Billy Long

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

We're searching Billy Long's website for mention of the "Citizens United" case, or campaign finance in general.

With regard to the Republican Address, Long says:

End Wasteful Spending
With an increasing national debt and growing federal budget deficits, southwest Missouri needs someone in office who will not engage in the pork barrel politics that have been allowed to run Washington. In ten years, the national debt is projected to be $16 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. This puts a tremendous debt on every American—more than $37,000 per person at the current level and projected to be much more in the future. This is a debt that will burden future generations if we do not stop the destructive economic policies that have been allowed to run amok in Washington.
Our nation cannot afford to stay on this destructive path. The government cannot keep committing future taxpayers to pay for today’s frivolous projects, political patronage, and pork barrel spending. As the only businessperson running, Billy knows how hard it can be to meet payroll and make ends meet, and he will fight to reign in harmful spending and heavy taxes that threaten the viability of families and small businesses. Billy is completely opposed to all earmarks and other frivolous uses of taxpayer money. He knows that runaway spending will lead to higher inflation, which will cause the recession to linger even longer.

Our platform on Campaign Finance.

We certainly agree with Long here. He just doesn't go far enough.

Government spending

"Earmarks" represent less than 2% of the federal budget.

A responsible congressman of good character can use earmarks to make sure the needs of the District take precedent over the political desires of some Executive Agency.

Taxes
As a fiscal conservative, Billy believes that the current tax code stands in the way of economic growth. Our government takes too much, penalizes success, and has created a tax code that is too complex and too long, at nearly 17,000 pages, for the average person to manage. Billy will always support tax relief and will vigorously fight congressional liberals when they seek to increase taxes. Billy is open to either a flat tax or a fair tax as a way to fix our tax system. If elected, Billy will work to streamline the tax system and make sure hard-working Missourians are able to keep more of what they earn.
The federal tax system cannot be "fixed." It needs to be abolished, and only the Libertarian in this race makes that proposal. Taxation is theft. The "Fair Tax" is still unfair. The personal income tax was created by progressives to make the government larger. It doesn't need to be "fixed."

Scott Eckersley

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

We're searching Scott Eckersley's website for mention of the "Citizens United" case, or campaign finance in general. We covered this subject a few weeks ago in the Ozarks Virtual Town Hall - August 21st, 2010
If Eckersley's statements were laid side-by-side with the Republican address this morning, and neither set of comments were identified, it would be difficult to distinguish them, or identify the true author. Eckersley is indistinguishable from most Republicans, and therefore from most politicians these days. We've been hearing about cutting government debt and spending for decades. It won't happen unless we get a few libertarians in Congress.

More Resources on Today's Subjects

If you take nothing else with you from today's "Virtual Town Hall," remember this:

Taxation is immoral;
the ethical equivalent of THEFT

Second, Today's Tax Burden is 10-30 times greater
than the taxes America's Founders called a tyranny.

Third, the purposes for which today's government uses taxes
are destructive of civilization itself.

How the Two Major Parties Differ from
the American vision of "Liberty Under God":

  • The Constitution:
  • The Free Market:

    • America's Founders spoke of America as "an Experiment in Liberty" (1787-1887)
      • The "experiment" was a success: a Free Market made America the most prosperous and admired nation in history. "Capitalism" means freedom.
    • In the 20th century, the experiment in liberty was replaced with another experiment: an experiment in central planning
    • The original American dream of personal, private ownership, has been replaced with private indebtedness and public control.
    • The Invisible Hand of the Free Market works better than the Visible Fist of Government
    • America was founded on the philosophy of "Liberty Under God."
      • "Liberty" means freedom from government suppression of ideas and confiscation of wealth
      • "Under God" means we have a personal responsibility to love God and neighbor.
    • The original American Dream: Everyone dwelling safely under his own Vine & Fig Tree
      • Human beings are endowed with the right to property by God, not the government.
    • America was founded as a "City upon a Hill," a Christian nation from which the Gospel would be promoted around the world.
    • Economics in One Lesson:
      • From this aspect, therefore, the whole of economics can be reduced to a single lesson, and that lesson can be reduced to a single sentence. The art of economics consists in looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups.
  • Terrorism
    • Why do they call America "The Great Satan?"
      • We bomb Muslims

      • We have military bases in Muslim nations

      • We support Israel's actions against Palestinians

    • These are the reasons given by Osama bin Laden for declaring a "fatwah" (holy war) against the U.S.
    • All of these accusations are true.
    • All of these government actions are contrary to the Constitution.
    • The biggest cause of terrorism -- and the most dangerous threat to the personal safety and security of ordinary Americans like you and me -- is the Federal Government of the United States.
    • The federal government is no longer a City upon a Hill, but an imperialist empire.
    • America's Founders envisioned the American people, acting as businessmen, humanitarians, and missionaries, engaging in commercial and charitable activities around the world, bringing peace and receiving the admiration of the world.
      • "The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible."
        — Washington, Farewell Address (1796) [Washington’s emphasis]

      • "I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one] which ought to shape its administration,…peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none."
        — Jefferson, First Inaugural Address (1801)

    • Bush's unconstitutional military invasion of Iraq has destroyed Christianity in that country.
      • Under Saddam Hussein's secular government, Christians in Iraq had greater freedom than in most other Arab nations, and one of the largest Christian populations in the Muslim world was in Iraq.
      • Iraq is now an Islamic theocracy under Sharia law. The Christian population has been destroyed. Christian Churches are burned and terrorized with impunity.
    • Obama is following in Bush's unconstitutional, anti-Christian footsteps.
    • The U.S. needs to take greater leadership in avoiding nuclear mass-murder.
    • Is any war a "Just War?" We must beat our "swords into plowshares."
  • The New World Order
    • The "G-20" Leaders are not our representatives.
    • The U.S. must end "entangling alliances" with dictators around the globe.
  • Socialized Medical Care
    • Capitalism, not socialism, creates higher quality health care for more people, especially for the poor.
    • Health care reforms should decrease, not increase, government involvement.
      • No Government licensing of doctors and other healthcare providers.
      • No transformation of insurance into welfare.
  • Environmentalism
    • A false religion - worshiping the creature rather than the Creator.
    • Human beings have a higher priority than wildlife.
      • Dominion
      • Human beings need a healthy environment -- obviously.
      • "The State" is the greatest destroyer of the environment, and limits liability of polluters, to the detriment of private property owners.
  • Time for Revolution?

Why Americans Should
Celebrate
Christmas

365 Days a Year

The word "Christ" means "King." The Message of Christmas and the Principles set forth by the Christ (the Messiah) who came that first Christmas are the real solution to America's problems. The Federal Government is at war with Christmas and "The Way of Peace" announced by the Prince of Peace. The Government should be on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6-7). Abolishing a Messianic State is the only appropriate way to honor the Messiah. Otherwise Christmas becomes mass hypocrisy.

Christmas

Bush-Clinton-Obama

John 1:1-18 - The Incarnation
The Word became flesh. The Creator of the universe becomes a human being. He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, preferring darkness rather than light.
"The State is God walking on Earth"

The 2 parties are cooperating rival sects in the world's most powerful religious cult.

Luke 1:1-4
Eyewitnesses of the Messiah recorded their testimony. Co-Founder of the Harvard Law School says their testimony would prove the resurrection in any court of law in America, at one time a Christian nation.
No longer a Christian nation, American courts routinely release the guilty and condemn the innocent.
Matthew 1:1-17
Jesus was a descendant of King David. The Jews gave us the Bible.
Obama is a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Luke 3:23-38
Jesus was a descendant of Abraham.
All those who submit to Jesus as the Messiah (the rightful king of the earth) inherit the promises made to Abraham
Those who reject the Messiah do not inherit the promises made to Abraham, even though Bush defends their right to do so.
Luke 1:5-25
John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah, as prophesied of Elijah.
As you read the Gospel accounts, ask yourself how you would react if you knew these accounts were really true. Not just true in some "religious" sense, but reported in the New York Times, proven in a court of law, or acknowledged by your personal hero.  (How do you know something is true? Do you even have any "heroes?") How should you change your life if your Creator became a human being? How should Washington D.C. react if this human being claimed to be the true Ruler?
Luke 1:26-38
The Angel Gabriel announces the conception of the Messiah, who will be given the throne of David.
Luke 1:39-45
The unborn John recognizes the mother of the Messiah.
Bush-Obama would chop the unborn John and the unborn Jesus into stem cells for "medical research."
Luke 1:46-56 - "The Magnificat"
“He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.” Luke 1:51
The Bush Administration is filled with the power-hungry, who commit adultery in reality or in fantasy.
Luke 1:67-80
Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, prophecies the birth of Jesus the anti-king.
The expectations of Zacharias are 180° opposite those of the Bush-Obama Administration.
Matthew 1:18-25
Joseph told about the Incarnation.
"Jesus" means "salvation"
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
The Bush Administration thinks it brings salvation.

Obama thinks he is Immanuel.

Luke 2:1-7
The Prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus' parents lived in Nazereth. Therefore God predestined Caesar to issue a decree (probably relating to taxes) that would bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem before Jesus was born.
Bush claims the same global power of confiscation and migration as Caesar did. Thousands of Christians have been forced to move out of Iraq to make way for Bush's Islamic Theocracy.
Luke 2:8-14
An army of angels announces the birth of the Messiah, saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace to those with whom He is pleased!”
Man's chief end is to glorify God and live in peace. The Bush Administration's chief end is to erect a "wall of separation" between God and government so that the State gives no glory to God, and to wage war, thereby "stimulating the economy."
Luke 2:15-20
“Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
Washington D.C. isn't listening.
Luke 2:22-24
Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to obey Leviticus 12:8, which suggests that they were not rich.
Washington politicians are among the richest and most financially secure people in America.
Luke 2:25-35
Simeon had been told he would not die before he saw the Lord's Messiah. He says Jesus is "The One."

Is Barack Obama the Messiah?

Luke 2:36-38
Anna the Prophetess is another well-known Godly person who acknowledges that Jesus is the Child promised by the prophets.
Where is the Anna of our day who tells us we can trust Washington D.C. to bring salvation?
Matthew 2:1-8
"Wise men from the East" knew of Micah's prophecy that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem.
Are there any wise men around the world who place their confidence in George Bush, Henry Paulson, Paul Krugman, or Barack Obama?
Matthew 2:9-12
The kings from the east present the Messiah with "gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others.
Matthew 2:13-18
When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power):  he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.

Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

Matthew 28:18-20
Herod's son Antipas played a small role in the execution of Jesus Christ. But Jesus rose from the dead, was enthroned on the throne of David at the right hand of God, and assumed the rightful role of King over all nations.
"Beginning today and culminating on Sunday morning, Christians will celebrate with their families the resurrection of Christ, His victory over death. We will remember that He gave His body and His blood—washing clean the faults and the shortcomings of the world. In our rejoicing we will renew the hope that is ours through the risen Lord."
Ronald Reagan: Statement on the Celebration of Passover and Easter

Listeners' Questions

Bob Harrison - St. Louis
If Christ forbade the use of government force to regulate sins like drug use, why would the Christian Founders allow voters to write amendments that allow the government to do that into the Christian Constitution?
In addition to the discussion during our Town Hall, it should be pointed out that the Christian Founders believed many things which were not Christian, even though they themselves claimed to be Christian. They believed the institution of civil government was a necessary evil, which some Christians (and many libertarians) believe is evil, but not necessary. Jefferson, who called himself a Christian, believed homosexuals should be castrated. No Christian today believes that. They also permitted things which most of them thought should be abolished. Slavery is an obvious example. Arminianism might be another example, if Calvinists thought the government should take action against it, but realized that that same government power might be turned against them (the Calvinists) if the Arminians were to seize power. I am not aware of any position taken by any of the Founding Fathers with regard to government force against drug use. I suspect drunkenness was a crime in every state.

Bob Harrison - St. Louis
Follow-up: if any government (including the US Constitution) is Biblically illegitimate, then why is the constitutionality of any law relevant? Why should I (or we) care? I don't mean this hostilely, but isn't a "constitutional" law of a "government" as unholy as an "unconstitutional" law?
We should force politicians to be consistent. If they take an oath to "support the Constitution," they ought to at least be held to that standard. If they can't be depended on to follow the Constitution, they can't be depended on to follow an even higher standard.

During this morning's Town Hall, we mentioned a debate in the Constitutional Convention. Actually we were thinking of a debate in the ratifying convention of North Carolina. The debate can be found here. Our analysis is found here. It is clear from reading the debate that all parties believed America was a Christian nation, and should continue to "add to the progress of the Christian religion among us." They thought the danger of government imposition of religion was greater than the danger of Muslims being elected. They were right. Today's "moral majority" types are wrong. Freedom is essential; government compulsion is more dangerous than that which it seeks to prevent.

Kevin Craig's Platform:

What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?

The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.

Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.

America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.

Muskets are Not an Option

There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.

Revolution Won't Come in a Day

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."

Black-market profits caused by drug prohibition fund a civil war in Mexico that's threatening to spill over our borders. Drug profits also fuel the terrorists who are killing U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. It's time to dry up the black-market profits. It's time to end drug prohibition.

Make Congress Read Their Bills Before Voting

End the FED
The Federal Reserve System constantly inflates and deflates the supply of money and credit, causing booms and busts. It's time to get off this roller-coaster. It's time to end the Fed.

No Bailouts!

No Bailouts!
No government money, whether borrowed or taxed, should ever be used to bailout private financial interests. If you agree, please send Congress a message telling them so.
TWIC - A Backdoor Real ID Card
Real ID is dying. But the Department of Homeland Security has a new plan to subject every American to a national ID card anyway. They plan to pick off one occupational field at a time, starting with the maritime industry. One man is fighting back. Meet him, and help stop this backdoor Real ID plan.

Repeal the campaign finance laws Repeal the campaign finance laws
Campaign finance laws are really incumbent protection laws. They make it almost impossible for challengers to raise competitive funding, while doing almost nothing to control the true causes of government corruption. We were told that the campaign finance laws—the contribution limits and the reporting requirements—would curtail or even prevent corruption. Now, with 40 years of experience, we know that they do the exact opposite.
End Asset Forfeiture
If the government suspects you used your house or car in a crime, they can take it and sell it at auction. They don't even have to prove your guilt. They call this practice civil asset forfeiture, but it's really theft. It violates the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 14th Amendments. It also encourages law enforcement to put profits before justice. Tell Congress to end civil asset forfeiture.

Cap-and-trade is not the way to control carbon emissions.

Cap-and-trade is not the way to control carbon emissions.
Even if you accept that human CO2 emissions are causing problematic global warming, a government run "cap and trade" system is not the way to deal with this problem.
• An increase in your electricity and gasoline bills
• New tools for politicians to control the economy, hand out favors, and punish enemies
• Almost no improvement in reducing overall CO-2 emissions (if the example of Europe is a reliable guide) Learn more »

Unelected bureaucrats create tens-of-thousands of new dictates each year. Making rules is the job of Congress, not bureaucrats.

Restore consumer controlled health care

Restore consumer controlled health care
The politicians tell us free market health care doesn't work, but we haven't had a free market in decades.
• Starting with depression era wage and price controls, and continuing with government tax policies, the politicians have made Americans dependent on their jobs to get health insurance.
• The government already pays for nearly half of all health care. This means we're half-socialized already

Stop the War for Terror
U.S. policy has inflamed the Middle East. It has made terrorism more likely rather than less. We seem to be fighting a war for terror, rather than on terror. This policy must stop. The place to start stopping is with Iran. We must not attack Iran. War with Iran would devastate our economy, disrupt world oil supplies, and recruit more terrorists. Click here to stop this war before it starts.

Preserve the Freedom to Farm

Preserve the Freedom to Farm
Crops grow in dirt. Animals don't take showers or use toilets. Food is made from yucky stuff.
This means there's always a risk of contamination. We can reduce this risk, but not eliminate it. Attempts to make everything perfectly safe are Utopian fantasies that carry a high price in increased costs, reduced variety, diminished supply, and . . . increased risk.
The free market already provides you with multiple ways to balance risks and costs.
