Transcript and Analysis of the President's Weekly Radio Address:
"Letting Wall Street Run Wild Again"

The White House Press Office:  – In this week’s address, President Obama called out the Republican leadership in Congress for vowing to repeal Wall Street reform, which will protect Americans from unfair practices in mortgage transactions and foreclosures.  The Wall Street reform law also set new rules so that taxpayers will never again be on the hook for a bailout if a big financial company goes under, helps rein in the secret deals and reckless gambling that nearly brought the financial system down, and set up the strongest consumer protections in history.  The special interests fought hard against reform, spending millions to preserve a system that worked better for them than for middle class families.  And now, the GOP leadership is calling for repealing this law and that would take the country backwards.

Saturday Morning Radio Address
Saturday Morning, October 23rd, 2010

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

Over the past two years, we’ve won a number of battles to defend the interests of the middle class.  One of the most important victories we achieved was the passage of Wall Street Reform.
This was a bill designed to rein in the secret deals and reckless gambling that nearly brought down the financial system.  It set new rules so that taxpayers would never again be on the hook for a bailout if a big financial company went under.  And reform included the strongest consumer protections in history – to put an end to a lot of the hidden fees, deceptive mortgages, and other abusive practices used to tilt the tables against ordinary people in their financial dealings. What kind of educational system produces "ordinary people" who -- when their home is being foreclosed -- can say, "Gee, I didn't know I was unqualified to buy a quarter of a million dollar house?"
It was a tough fight.  The special interests poured millions into a lobbying campaign to prevent us from reforming the system – a system that worked a lot better for them than for middle class families.  Some in the financial industry were eager to protect a status quo that basically allowed them to play by their own rules.  And these interests held common cause with Republican leaders in Washington who were looking to score a political victory in an election year. What was it -- which "system" -- worked well for Wall Street? Was it the system that caused their investments to fail? No, that was the system at work. People who make bad investments should expect them to fail. No, the "system" that worked for Wall Street was the system of government bailouts of Wall St. The Titanic known as "General Motors" was kept floating by the government. The Free Market puts shysters out of business. Government regulations shield them.
But their efforts failed.  And we succeeded in passing reform in the hopes of ensuring that we never again face a crisis like the one we’ve been through – a crisis that unleashed an economic downturn as deep as any since the Great Depression.  Even today, we are still digging out of the damage it unleashed on the economy.  Millions of people are still out of work.  Millions of families are still hurting. The "crisis" was caused by government intervention in the economy. It was caused by the government pumping trillions of new "dollars" into the hands of special interests, making everyone else's dollars worth less. Obama's legislation gives the government more power, more control, more opportunity to derail a free market and cause economic collapse.
We’re also seeing the reverberations of this crisis with the rise in foreclosures.  And recently, we’ve seen problems in foreclosure proceedings – mistakes that have led to disruptions in the housing markets.  This is only one more piece of evidence as to why Wall Street Reform is so necessary.  In fact, as part of reform, a new consumer watchdog is now standing up.  It will have just one job: looking out for ordinary consumers in the financial system.  And this watchdog will have the authority to guard against unfair practices in mortgage transactions and foreclosures. The biggest "disruption" in the housing market was government intervention to create a housing bubble. The housing bubble was caused by the government. The government wanted more people to buy houses, and the government wanted to keep housing prices high.
Yet despite the importance of this law – and despite the terrible economic dislocation caused by the failures in our financial system under the old rules – top Republicans in Congress are now beating the drum to repeal all of these reforms and consumer protections.  Recently, one of the Republican leaders in the Senate said that if Republicans take charge of Congress, repeal would be one of the first orders of business.  And he joins the top Republican in the House who actually called for the law to be repealed even before it passed.
I think that would be a terrible mistake.  Our economy depends on a financial system in which everyone competes on a level playing field, and everyone is held to the same rules – whether you’re a big bank, a small business owner, or a family looking to buy a house or open a credit card. And as we saw, without sound oversight and common-sense protections for consumers, the whole economy is put in jeopardy.  That doesn’t serve Main Street.  That doesn’t serve Wall Street.  That doesn’t serve anyone.  And that’s why I think it’s so important that we not take this country backward – that we don’t go back to the broken system we had before.  We’ve got to keep moving forward.
Thanks.

What Ozarks Candidates Are Saying

The Republican Party Radio Address:
(This week's video not yet posted)

Response of the Republican Party
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Once again, the Republican Party leadership has asked Congressman Ron Paul to deliver . . . wait a minute . . . I'm sorry . . .
Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana delivered the GOP Weekly Address

Hello, I’m Senator John Thune of South Dakota.  As you’ve probably noticed, we have an election coming up in a little over a week.
President Obama has been running around the country trying to reelect Democrat members of Congress.
But if the conversations I’ve had with voters are any indication, the president should spend less time campaigning to save the jobs of Democrats in Congress, and more time trying to create jobs for the American people.
All across South Dakota and the country, I've heard from people who aren’t fooled by President Obama's well-written speeches.  They have serious concerns about our economy, and they are all too familiar with the Administration’s failed policies.
One of the Democrats' main responsibilities over the past two years was to improve the economy.  Instead, they decided to try an experiment to grow government, raise taxes, and take over health care.  After two years, the American people are left asking, ‘Why have the Democrats’ priorities been so different from ours?’
The Obama Experiment has failed.
When the president and his Democrat allies in Congress pushed through their $814 billion stimulus bill, they promised it would create millions of jobs, and keep unemployment under eight percent.  But their approach didn’t work, and they failed to deliver on their promises.
Unemployment has climbed to nearly 10 percent.  Rather than create jobs, the Democrats expanded government, and now the American people are stuck with another bill for nearly a trillion dollars.
When the president was introducing his big government health care plan, he promised to reduce every family’s health insurance premiums by as much as $2,500.  But premiums keep going up.  Families in some states are seeing increases in the double digits.  Here again, Democrats promised but didn’t deliver, and the American people are stuck with rising health care costs and another tab; this one for two-and-a-half trillion dollars.
The Democrats have controlled the White House and both chambers of Congress for nearly two years, and have proven that more government is not the answer.  This year they were not even capable of passing a budget.  Instead, they spent their time passing more and more burdensome regulations, like their so-called Financial Reform bill that failed to address the main cause of our economic mess.
Despite a dangerously high national debt that is closing in on $14 trillion, the president wants to spend even more money on these kinds of failed policies.  And he appears intent on raising taxes to do it.
Giving Democrats more opportunities to manage the economy and spend taxpayer dollars will not give us the economic growth that we need.  It will only lead to more growth of government bureaucracy, and to national bankruptcy.
There is a reason unemployment is stuck near ten percent.
There is a reason jobs are not being created.
There is a reason too many Americans who want a job can’t find one.
There is a reason the dollar is weak and our economy is not growing as it should.
The reason is that President Obama and Congressional Democrats have led this country in the wrong direction.
Government cannot be openly hostile to American businesses, and expect them to grow and create jobs.
Government cannot raise taxes during tough economic times, and expect small businesses to grow and create jobs.
A new direction is needed. A "new direction" has been needed for 80 years.
The president likes to say that when you want to drive forward you put your car in D, and when you want to go in reverse you put it in R.  It’s a clever line, but when you’re speeding toward a cliff, you don’t want to keep the car in drive.
Republicans want to reverse the dangerous course the Democrats have us on.
Republicans want to reverse Democrats’ plan to raise taxes on the 750,000 small businesses in this country that employ 25 percent of all workers.  So employers have more money to create new jobs.
Republicans support policies that will grow the economy, not the government.
Republicans want to repeal the flawed health care law that has been rejected by the American public, and replace it with a new plan that actually reduces costs.  We want to reverse the uncertainty in the marketplace so that small businesses have the confidence to grow and invest and create jobs.
And Republicans want to reverse this nonsense of government bailouts and takeovers of private businesses.  Republicans started the bailout nonsense.
Republicans have proposed real, concrete solutions to the challenges we face as a country.
We have learned the lessons not only of what hasn’t worked over the past two years, but what didn’t work the last time Republicans controlled Congress.  Republicans are listening to the frustration being expressed by Americans all across this country, and we are determined to take this country in the right direction.
The choice could not be more clear. Democrats are driving more of the same failed policies they have pushed for the past two years.  Republicans are proposing to take this country in a different direction. "proposing," during election season, but not actually doing so when they get elected.
So I would like to suggest a simple question people should ask themselves to help cut through all the talk: Are you better off today than you were two years ago? I’m Senator John Thune. Thank you for listening.    ####

What Ozarks Candidates Are Saying About These Issues

Billy Long

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

Neither of the two major party candidates give any indication that they understand the miraculous beauty of the "invisible hand" of the Free Market, and would be able to defend liberty against Democrats and their fascist plans for America. Tim Davis, who ran against Eckersley in the Democrat primary, has said that Kevin Craig has a better understanding of the economic issues than the two major party candidates in this race.

Scott Eckersley

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

“Southwest Missourians are finished bailing out Wall Street on the backs of Main Street, ” said Eckersley. “Sixy percent of our nation's economy relies on small businesses. Its time we support the small business owners who create jobs and revenue for our communities.”
"Give 'Em Eck" Tour Off to a Great Start - Home - Scott Eckersley for U.S. Congress in Missouri 7th District
The President chose to address the nation in his Saturday Morning Radio Address on a piece of legislation that he considers a landmark reform. Neither of the two major party candidates have much to say about this issue. How can voters know what they think, or whether they are competent to engage 434 other Representatives to promote the best interests of America?

The Republican Response

More Resources on Today's Subjects

"Wall Street Reform" and "Consumer Protection"

If you take nothing else with you from today's "Virtual Town Hall," remember this:

Taxation is immoral;
the ethical equivalent of THEFT

Second, Today's Tax Burden is 10-30 times greater
than the taxes America's Founders called a tyranny.

Third, the purposes for which today's government uses taxes
are destructive of civilization itself.

Politicians both Democrat and Republican are saying
"we must cut taxes on small businesses to create jobs."
But if they cut one tax, they increase another.

America's Founding Fathers -- who condemned taxes which were
one-twentieth the size of our taxes --
would condemn today's politicians.

How the Two Major Parties Differ from
the American vision of "Liberty Under God":

  • The Constitution:
  • The Free Market:

    • America's Founders spoke of America as "an Experiment in Liberty" (1787-1887)
      • The "experiment" was a success: a Free Market made America the most prosperous and admired nation in history. "Capitalism" means freedom.
    • In the 20th century, the experiment in liberty was replaced with another experiment: an experiment in central planning
    • The original American dream of personal, private ownership, has been replaced with private indebtedness and public control.
    • The Invisible Hand of the Free Market works better than the Visible Fist of Government
    • America was founded on the philosophy of "Liberty Under God."
      • "Liberty" means freedom from government suppression of ideas and confiscation of wealth
      • "Under God" means we have a personal responsibility to love God and neighbor.
    • The original American Dream: Everyone dwelling safely under his own Vine & Fig Tree
      • Human beings are endowed with the right to property by God, not the government.
    • America was founded as a "City upon a Hill," a Christian nation from which the Gospel would be promoted around the world, and the "blessings of liberty" would cover the planet.
    • Economics in One Lesson:
      • From this aspect, therefore, the whole of economics can be reduced to a single lesson, and that lesson can be reduced to a single sentence: The art of economics consists in looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups.
  • Terrorism
    • Why do they call The United States "The Great Satan?"
      • The federal government bombs Muslims

      • The federal government has military bases in Muslim nations

      • The federal government supports Israel's actions against Palestinians

    • These are the reasons given by Osama bin Laden for declaring a "fatwah" (holy war) against the U.S.
    • All of these accusations are true.
    • All of these government actions are contrary to the Constitution.
    • The biggest cause of terrorism -- and the most dangerous threat to the personal safety and security of ordinary Americans like you and me -- is the Federal Government of the United States.
    • The federal government is no longer a City upon a Hill, but an imperialist empire.
    • America's Founders envisioned the American people, acting as businessmen, humanitarians, and missionaries, engaging in commercial and charitable activities around the world, bringing peace and receiving the admiration of the world.
      • "The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible."
        — Washington, Farewell Address (1796) [Washington’s emphasis]

      • "I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one] which ought to shape its administration,…peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none."
        — Jefferson, First Inaugural Address (1801)

    • Bush's unconstitutional military invasion of Iraq has destroyed Christianity in that country.
      • Under Saddam Hussein's secular government, Christians in Iraq had greater freedom than in most other Arab nations, and one of the largest Christian populations in the Muslim world was in Iraq.
      • Iraq is now an Islamic theocracy under Sharia law. The Christian population has been destroyed. Christian Churches are burned and terrorized with impunity. Thanks be to Washington D.C.
    • Obama is following in Bush's unconstitutional, anti-Christian footsteps.
    • The U.S. needs to take greater leadership in avoiding nuclear mass-murder.
    • Is any war a "Just War?" We must beat our "swords into plowshares."
  • The New World Order
    • The "G-20" Leaders are not our representatives.
    • The U.S. must end "entangling alliances" with dictators around the globe.
  • Socialized Medical Care
    • Capitalism, not socialism, creates higher quality health care for more people, especially for the poor.
    • Health care reforms should decrease, not increase, government involvement.
      • No Government licensing of doctors and other healthcare providers.
      • No transformation of insurance into welfare.
  • Environmentalism
    • A false religion - worshiping the creature rather than the Creator.
    • Human beings have a higher priority than wildlife.
      • Dominion
      • Human beings need a healthy environment -- obviously.
      • "The State" is the greatest destroyer of the environment, and limits liability of polluters, to the detriment of private property owners.
  • Time for Revolution?

Why Americans Should
Celebrate
Christmas

365 Days a Year

The word "Christ" means "King." The Message of Christmas and the Principles set forth by the Christ (the Messiah) who came that first Christmas are the real solution to America's problems. The Federal Government is at war with Christmas and "The Way of Peace" announced by the Prince of Peace. The Government should be on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6-7). Abolishing a Messianic State is the only appropriate way to honor the Messiah. Otherwise Christmas becomes mass hypocrisy.

Christmas

Bush-Clinton-Obama

John 1:1-18 - The Incarnation
The Word became flesh. The Creator of the universe becomes a human being. He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, preferring darkness rather than light.
Luke 1:1-4
Eyewitnesses of the Messiah recorded their testimony. Co-Founder of the Harvard Law School says their testimony would prove the resurrection in any court of law in America, at one time a Christian nation.
No longer a Christian nation, American courts routinely release the guilty and condemn the innocent.
Matthew 1:1-17
Jesus was a descendant of King David. The Jews gave us the Bible.
Obama is a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Luke 3:23-38
Jesus was a descendant of Abraham.
All those who submit to Jesus as the Messiah (the rightful king of the earth) inherit the promises made to Abraham
Those who reject the Messiah do not inherit the promises made to Abraham, even though Bush defends their right to do so.
Luke 1:5-25
John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah, as prophesied of Elijah.
As you read the Gospel accounts, ask yourself how you would react if you knew these accounts were really true. Not just true in some "religious" sense, but reported in the New York Times, proven in a court of law, or acknowledged by your personal hero.  (How do you know something is true? Do you even have any "heroes?") How should you change your life if your Creator became a human being? How should Washington D.C. react if this human being claimed to be the true Ruler?
Luke 1:26-38
The Angel Gabriel announces the conception of the Messiah, who will be given the throne of David.
Luke 1:39-45
The unborn John recognizes the mother of the Messiah.
Bush-Obama would chop the unborn John and the unborn Jesus into stem cells for "medical research."
Luke 1:46-56 - "The Magnificat"
“He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.” Luke 1:51
The Bush Administration is filled with the power-hungry, who commit adultery in reality or in fantasy.
Luke 1:67-80
Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, prophecies the birth of Jesus the anti-king.
The expectations of Zacharias are 180° opposite those of the Bush-Obama Administration.
Matthew 1:18-25
Joseph told about the Incarnation.
"Jesus" means "salvation"
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
The Bush Administration thinks it brings salvation.

Obama thinks he is Immanuel.

Luke 2:1-7
The Prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus' parents lived in Nazereth. Therefore God predestined Caesar to issue a decree (probably relating to taxes) that would bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem before Jesus was born.
Bush claims the same global power of confiscation and migration as Caesar did. Thousands of Christians have been forced to move out of Iraq to make way for Bush's Islamic Theocracy.
Luke 2:8-14
An army of angels announces the birth of the Messiah, saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace to those with whom He is pleased!”
Man's chief end is to glorify God and live in peace. The Bush Administration's chief end is to erect a "wall of separation" between God and government so that the State gives no glory to God, and to wage war, thereby "stimulating the economy."
Luke 2:15-20
“Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
Washington D.C. isn't listening.
Luke 2:22-24
Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to obey Leviticus 12:8, which suggests that they were not rich.
Washington politicians are among the richest and most financially secure people in America.
Luke 2:25-35
Simeon had been told he would not die before he saw the Lord's Messiah. He says Jesus is "The One."

Is Barack Obama the Messiah?

Luke 2:36-38
Anna the Prophetess is another well-known Godly person who acknowledges that Jesus is the Child promised by the prophets.
Where is the Anna of our day who tells us we can trust Washington D.C. to bring salvation?
Matthew 2:1-8
"Wise men from the East" knew of Micah's prophecy that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem.
Are there any wise men around the world who place their confidence in George Bush, Henry Paulson, Paul Krugman, or Barack Obama?
Matthew 2:9-12
The kings from the east present the Messiah with "gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others.
Matthew 2:13-18
When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power):  he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.

Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

Matthew 28:18-20
Herod's son Antipas played a small role in the execution of Jesus Christ. But Jesus rose from the dead, was enthroned on the throne of David at the right hand of God, and assumed the rightful role of King over all nations.
"Beginning today and culminating on Sunday morning, Christians will celebrate with their families the resurrection of Christ, His victory over death. We will remember that He gave His body and His blood—washing clean the faults and the shortcomings of the world. In our rejoicing we will renew the hope that is ours through the risen Lord."

Listeners' Questions

billgraham - Flora, Illinois
Dera Mr Craig, Thgank you for taking your stand concerning the phrase The Laws of Nature and of Nature's God, it is the bedrock and corner stone of all the laws on earth and specificaly the laws of the United States of America. I am afraid that all the rallies and good intentions of American citizens tofight curruption of big government will fall short if they do not grasp the meaning of this essential phrase. I have recently written some shot manuscript for children's books to explain to chlidren, teachers and parents the meaning behind this phrase. I am not a published author only a concderned christian citizen who believes this information is crucial to the survival and restoration of this country. With out this knowledge we will never get this country back to the original intent and pupuose the founders meant for it to be. Without emphasizing the phrase we will not even be starting at the same point of reference to correct things in this country. Any comments, suggetions or resources would be greatly appreciated. May God richly bless you Sir.
I recommend David Barton's book, Original Intent.

The U.S. Supreme Court orders local public schools to remove copies of the Ten Commandments from classroom walls. Why do principals and teachers fall in line behind the Court rather than God? Why does the majority obey the minority?

David R - St. Louis
Here's my question. Why is your Constitutional understanding of the First Amendment so very flawed? Especially since the Constitution states the Supreme Court as the highest court and has granted the power to interpret the Constitution to the courts. Sorry guy-who-has-n-chance-in-hell, but it's already decided...the government cannot advance religion. It sends a message to non-adherents that they are not equals (I'm a Catholic, thank you very much). Sorry, but judgment is meant for the afterlife.
A law prohibiting Aztecs from sacrificing virgins on an altar to the sun-god makes Aztecs feel like second class citizens. Same with laws against Mormon polygamy. The Supreme Court for the first 100 years under the Constitution consistently ruled that America was a Christian nation, and non-Christian behavior like thuggism, cannibalism, and polygamy would not be tolerated.

In the second hundred years after the Constitution (the 20th century), the Court abandoned the original intent of the Framers.

The Supreme Court is not infallible. It has overruled itself. It can make a mistake by overruling its own previous correct decisions.

Benjamin Franklin correctly noted that "'except the Lord build the House they labour in vain those that build it.' I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel:" God does not wait for the afterlife to judge. Nor should we. We must conform our individual and political lives to "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" if we want -- in this life -- to have "a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence."

America was founded on the belief that we are put on this planet to advance religion -- government too.

Kevin Craig's Platform:

What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?

The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.

Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.

America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.

Muskets are Not an Option

There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.

Revolution Won't Come in a Day

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."

Click here to stop this war before it starts.
