Transcript and Analysis of the President's Weekly Radio Address:
"GOP Leadership Standing up for Outsourcing and Special Interests, Instead of American Workers"

The White House Press Office:  – In this week’s address, President Barack Obama broke with Republicans in Congress who are putting special interests ahead of the American people and offering only a rehash of the very same economic policies that led to the financial crisis.  When the GOP asked the American people, through a website, for ideas, one that drew great deal of interest is ending tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.  But when the administration closed one of the most egregious loopholes for companies creating jobs overseas, Republicans were almost unanimously opposed.  Rather than offering a path to a better future, their plan is an echo of a disastrous decade the country cannot afford to relive.

President Obama's
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

This week, the economists who officially decide when recessions start and end declared the recession of 2008 to be over.  But if you’re one of the millions of Americans who lost your home, your job, or your savings as a consequence of the recession, this news is of little comfort or value.
Yes, the economy is growing instead of shrinking, as it was in 2008 and the beginning of 2009.  We’re gaining private sector jobs each month instead of losing 800,000, as we did the month I took office.
But we have to keep pushing to promote growth that will generate the jobs we need, and repair the terrible damage the recession has done.  That’s why I’ve proposed a series of additional steps: accelerated tax breaks for businesses who buy equipment now; a permanent research and development tax break to promote innovation by American companies; and a new initiative to rebuild America’s roads, rails, and runways that will put folks to work and make our country more competitive.
Taken together with the small business tax cut and lending plan we passed through Congress last week, these steps will help spur jobs in the short run, and strengthen our economy for the long run.
Now, the Republicans who want to take over Congress offered their own ideas the other day.  Many were the very same policies that led to the economic crisis in the first place, which isn’t surprising, since many of their leaders were among the architects of that failed policy.
It is grounded in same worn out philosophy: cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires; cut the rules for Wall Street and the special interests; and cut the middle class loose to fend for itself.  That’s not a prescription for a better future.  It’s an echo of a disastrous decade we can’t afford to relive.
The Republicans in Washington claimed to draw their ideas from a website called “America Speaking Out.” It turns out that one of the ideas that’s drawn the most interest on their website is ending tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.
Funny thing is, when we recently closed one of the most egregious loopholes for companies creating jobs overseas, Republicans in Congress were almost unanimously opposed. The Republican leader John Boehner attacked us for it, and stood up for outsourcing, instead of American workers.
So, America may be speaking out, but Republicans in Congress sure aren’t listening. They want to put special interests back in the driver’s seat in Washington. They want to roll back the law that will finally stop health insurance companies from denying you coverage on the basis of a preexisting condition. They want to repeal reforms that will finally protect hardworking families from hidden rates and penalties every time they use a credit card, make a mortgage payment, or take out a student loan.
And for all their talk about reining in spending and getting our deficits under control, they want to borrow another $700 billion, and use it to give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. On average, that’s a tax cut of about $100,000 for millionaires.
Instead of cutting taxes for the wealthiest few – tax breaks we cannot afford – I’ve called for tax cuts for middle class families who saw their incomes shrink by five percent during the last, lost decade. We’ve already cut 8 different taxes for small business owners to help them hire and grow, and we’re going to cut 8 more. We’re challenging our states and schools to do a better job educating our kids and making college more affordable so America can once more lead the world in the proportion of our kids graduating from college. And we’re putting an end to the days of taxpayer-funded bailouts so Main Street never again has to pay for Wall Street’s mistakes.
America is a great country. Our democracy is vibrant, our economy is dynamic, and our workers can outcompete the best of them. But the way for us to remain the greatest country on Earth isn’t to turn back the clock and put the special interests in charge. It’s to make sure all our people are getting a fair shake. It’s to make sure everyone who’s willing to work for it still has a chance to reach for the American dream. And that will remain my mission every single day so long as I have the honor of serving as President.
Have a nice weekend, everybody.

The Republican Party Radio Address:

[today's video not yet posted on YouTube]

Response of the Republican Party
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

Once again, the Republican Party leadership has asked Congressman Ron Paul to deliver . . . wait a minute . . . I'm sorry . . .
Rep. Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California's 22nd Congressional District, delivered the GOP Weekly Address

Hi, I’m Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California.
This week Republicans made a Pledge to America.
Our new governing agenda answers the question so many Americans are asking: will we leave to our children a stronger, healthier, more prosperous country than our parents left us?  As we stand here before you, the future of our country hangs in the balance. Across this great nation, mothers and fathers wonder if their children will find the same opportunities for success that existed just a generation ago.
Can you blame them?  As a result of the economically disastrous policies of the current administration, millions of Americans are out of work today, and our children will be saddled with a deficit and debt that is -- by every definition -- out of control.
We have more people depending on food stamps to feed their families than at any point in history. The economy is so dire that one in six Americans has to rely on government assistance for financial support. One in six. The land of opportunity has become the land of shrinking prosperity.
Americans across the country are outraged, and so are we.  Just as John Hancock boldly signed his name to the Declaration of Independence so that even Britain’s King George could read it, I want to say this slowly so there is no room for misinterpretation…
Our government has failed us.
From the billion-dollar bailouts to the ‘stimulus’ package that failed to stimulate to the government takeover of health care, you cried “STOP!”…but the Democratic Majority in Washington has refused to listen.
I am speaking to you on behalf of Republicans to tell you that we’ve been listening, and we’ve heard you.  We heard you loud and clear, and we assure you that there is nothing more inspiring than the common voice of the common man.
When you said you wanted a prosperous, competitive economy, we heard you.
When you said you wanted a more accountable government, we heard you.
When you said you didn’t want a government takeover of health care, we heard you.
We know that you want a government dedicated to working for the people, and that’s why we’ve written this Pledge to America. This pledge isn’t about Republicans or Democrats, liberals or conservatives – it’s about you.
This pledge focuses largely on three things:
•    a plan to create jobs, end economic uncertainty, and make America more competitive;
•    a plan to cut wasteful Washington spending and reduce the size of government;
•    a plan to reform Congress and restore trust in government.
The new agenda embodies Americans’ rejection of the notion that we can simply tax, borrow and spend our way to prosperity.  It offers a new way forward that hasn’t been tried in Washington – an approach focused on cutting spending – which is sadly a new idea for a Congress accustomed to always accelerating it.
To put Americans back to work, our agenda seeks to eliminate uncertainty for the private-sector innovators and entrepreneurs who create jobs. It is impossible for government to "eliminate uncertainty." Taking risks is the very definition of entrepreneur. The "uncertainty" we want to avoid is not knowing what socialist or fascist intervention in the economy the government is going to try next.
And it commits to immediate action to change the way Congress works, recognizing that the current structure is rigged to minimize public scrutiny and facilitate unnecessary spending. The only way to change the way Congress works is to change what Congress does, and what Congress does is redistribute wealth.
This pledge is a governing agenda that could be implemented right now if the powers-that-be in Washington would allow it. We are calling on Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid to implement these proposals before Congress adjourns for the fall.
We go forward now with optimism and a firm belief that we live in a land of great promise and great possibilities… a land where – until recently, our tomorrows have held more promise than our yesterdays.
We are not ready to concede the fight for the prosperity of our country.  We refuse to believe that the same American dream that shone so brightly for our parents has dimmed for our children.  We must reverse our current course of action and reject the job-killing policies of the Democratic Majority.  We will take back our country and restore our right to a better future. This is our pledge to America.    ####

What Ozarks Candidates Are Saying About These Issues

Billy Long

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

With regard to the Republican Address, Long says:

End Wasteful Spending
With an increasing national debt and growing federal budget deficits, southwest Missouri needs someone in office who will not engage in the pork barrel politics that have been allowed to run Washington. In ten years, the national debt is projected to be $16 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. This puts a tremendous debt on every American—more than $37,000 per person at the current level and projected to be much more in the future. This is a debt that will burden future generations if we do not stop the destructive economic policies that have been allowed to run amok in Washington.
Our nation cannot afford to stay on this destructive path. The government cannot keep committing future taxpayers to pay for today’s frivolous projects, political patronage, and pork barrel spending. As the only businessperson running, Billy knows how hard it can be to meet payroll and make ends meet, and he will fight to reign in harmful spending and heavy taxes that threaten the viability of families and small businesses. Billy is completely opposed to all earmarks and other frivolous uses of taxpayer money. He knows that runaway spending will lead to higher inflation, which will cause the recession to linger even longer.

We certainly agree with Long here. He just doesn't go far enough.

Government spending

"Earmarks" represent less than 2% of the federal budget.

A responsible congressman of good character can use earmarks to make sure the needs of the District take precedent over the political desires of some Executive Agency.

Taxes
As a fiscal conservative, Billy believes that the current tax code stands in the way of economic growth. Our government takes too much, penalizes success, and has created a tax code that is too complex and too long, at nearly 17,000 pages, for the average person to manage. Billy will always support tax relief and will vigorously fight congressional liberals when they seek to increase taxes. Billy is open to either a flat tax or a fair tax as a way to fix our tax system. If elected, Billy will work to streamline the tax system and make sure hard-working Missourians are able to keep more of what they earn.
The federal tax system cannot be "fixed." It needs to be abolished, and only the Libertarian in this race makes that proposal. Taxation is theft. The "Fair Tax" is still unfair. The personal income tax was created by progressives to make the government larger. It doesn't need to be "fixed."

Scott Eckersley

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

If Eckersley's statements were laid side-by-side with the Republican address this morning, and neither set of comments were identified, it would be difficult to distinguish them, or identify the true author. Eckersley is indistinguishable from most Republicans, and therefore from most politicians these days. We've been hearing about cutting government debt and spending for decades. It won't even begin to happen unless we get a few libertarians in Congress.

More Resources on Today's Subjects

If you take nothing else with you from today's "Virtual Town Hall," remember this:

Taxation is immoral;
the ethical equivalent of THEFT

Second, Today's Tax Burden is 10-30 times greater
than the taxes America's Founders called a tyranny.

Third, the purposes for which today's government uses taxes
are destructive of civilization itself.

How the Two Major Parties Differ from
the American vision of "Liberty Under God":

  • The Constitution:
  • The Free Market:

    • America's Founders spoke of America as "an Experiment in Liberty" (1787-1887)
      • The "experiment" was a success: a Free Market made America the most prosperous and admired nation in history. "Capitalism" means freedom.
    • In the 20th century, the experiment in liberty was replaced with another experiment: an experiment in central planning
    • The original American dream of personal, private ownership, has been replaced with private indebtedness and public control.
    • The Invisible Hand of the Free Market works better than the Visible Fist of Government
    • America was founded on the philosophy of "Liberty Under God."
      • "Liberty" means freedom from government suppression of ideas and confiscation of wealth
      • "Under God" means we have a personal responsibility to love God and neighbor.
    • The original American Dream: Everyone dwelling safely under his own Vine & Fig Tree
      • Human beings are endowed with the right to property by God, not the government.
    • America was founded as a "City upon a Hill," a Christian nation from which the Gospel would be promoted around the world, and the "blessings of liberty" would cover the planet.
    • Economics in One Lesson:
      • From this aspect, therefore, the whole of economics can be reduced to a single lesson, and that lesson can be reduced to a single sentence: The art of economics consists in looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups.
  • Terrorism
    • Why do they call The United States "The Great Satan?"
      • The federal government bombs Muslims

      • The federal government has military bases in Muslim nations

      • The federal government supports Israel's actions against Palestinians

    • These are the reasons given by Osama bin Laden for declaring a "fatwah" (holy war) against the U.S.
    • All of these accusations are true.
    • All of these government actions are contrary to the Constitution.
    • The biggest cause of terrorism -- and the most dangerous threat to the personal safety and security of ordinary Americans like you and me -- is the Federal Government of the United States.
    • The federal government is no longer a City upon a Hill, but an imperialist empire.
    • America's Founders envisioned the American people, acting as businessmen, humanitarians, and missionaries, engaging in commercial and charitable activities around the world, bringing peace and receiving the admiration of the world.
      • "The great rule of conduct for us, in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible."
        — Washington, Farewell Address (1796) [Washington’s emphasis]

      • "I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one] which ought to shape its administration,…peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none."
        — Jefferson, First Inaugural Address (1801)

    • Bush's unconstitutional military invasion of Iraq has destroyed Christianity in that country.
      • Under Saddam Hussein's secular government, Christians in Iraq had greater freedom than in most other Arab nations, and one of the largest Christian populations in the Muslim world was in Iraq.
      • Iraq is now an Islamic theocracy under Sharia law. The Christian population has been destroyed. Christian Churches are burned and terrorized with impunity. Thanks be to Washington D.C.
    • Obama is following in Bush's unconstitutional, anti-Christian footsteps.
    • The U.S. needs to take greater leadership in avoiding nuclear mass-murder.
    • Is any war a "Just War?" We must beat our "swords into plowshares."
  • The New World Order
    • The "G-20" Leaders are not our representatives.
    • The U.S. must end "entangling alliances" with dictators around the globe.
  • Socialized Medical Care
    • Capitalism, not socialism, creates higher quality health care for more people, especially for the poor.
    • Health care reforms should decrease, not increase, government involvement.
      • No Government licensing of doctors and other healthcare providers.
      • No transformation of insurance into welfare.
  • Environmentalism
    • A false religion - worshiping the creature rather than the Creator.
    • Human beings have a higher priority than wildlife.
      • Dominion
      • Human beings need a healthy environment -- obviously.
      • "The State" is the greatest destroyer of the environment, and limits liability of polluters, to the detriment of private property owners.
  • Time for Revolution?

Why Americans Should
Celebrate
Christmas

365 Days a Year

The word "Christ" means "King." The Message of Christmas and the Principles set forth by the Christ (the Messiah) who came that first Christmas are the real solution to America's problems. The Federal Government is at war with Christmas and "The Way of Peace" announced by the Prince of Peace. The Government should be on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6-7). Abolishing a Messianic State is the only appropriate way to honor the Messiah. Otherwise Christmas becomes mass hypocrisy.

Christmas

Bush-Clinton-Obama

John 1:1-18 - The Incarnation
The Word became flesh. The Creator of the universe becomes a human being. He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, preferring darkness rather than light.
Luke 1:1-4
Eyewitnesses of the Messiah recorded their testimony. Co-Founder of the Harvard Law School says their testimony would prove the resurrection in any court of law in America, at one time a Christian nation.
No longer a Christian nation, American courts routinely release the guilty and condemn the innocent.
Matthew 1:1-17
Jesus was a descendant of King David. The Jews gave us the Bible.
Obama is a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Luke 3:23-38
Jesus was a descendant of Abraham.
All those who submit to Jesus as the Messiah (the rightful king of the earth) inherit the promises made to Abraham
Those who reject the Messiah do not inherit the promises made to Abraham, even though Bush defends their right to do so.
Luke 1:5-25
John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah, as prophesied of Elijah.
As you read the Gospel accounts, ask yourself how you would react if you knew these accounts were really true. Not just true in some "religious" sense, but reported in the New York Times, proven in a court of law, or acknowledged by your personal hero.  (How do you know something is true? Do you even have any "heroes?") How should you change your life if your Creator became a human being? How should Washington D.C. react if this human being claimed to be the true Ruler?
Luke 1:26-38
The Angel Gabriel announces the conception of the Messiah, who will be given the throne of David.
Luke 1:39-45
The unborn John recognizes the mother of the Messiah.
Bush-Obama would chop the unborn John and the unborn Jesus into stem cells for "medical research."
Luke 1:46-56 - "The Magnificat"
“He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.” Luke 1:51
The Bush Administration is filled with the power-hungry, who commit adultery in reality or in fantasy.
Luke 1:67-80
Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, prophecies the birth of Jesus the anti-king.
The expectations of Zacharias are 180° opposite those of the Bush-Obama Administration.
Matthew 1:18-25
Joseph told about the Incarnation.
"Jesus" means "salvation"
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
The Bush Administration thinks it brings salvation.

Obama thinks he is Immanuel.

Luke 2:1-7
The Prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus' parents lived in Nazereth. Therefore God predestined Caesar to issue a decree (probably relating to taxes) that would bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem before Jesus was born.
Bush claims the same global power of confiscation and migration as Caesar did. Thousands of Christians have been forced to move out of Iraq to make way for Bush's Islamic Theocracy.
Luke 2:8-14
An army of angels announces the birth of the Messiah, saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace to those with whom He is pleased!”
Man's chief end is to glorify God and live in peace. The Bush Administration's chief end is to erect a "wall of separation" between God and government so that the State gives no glory to God, and to wage war, thereby "stimulating the economy."
Luke 2:15-20
“Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
Washington D.C. isn't listening.
Luke 2:22-24
Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to obey Leviticus 12:8, which suggests that they were not rich.
Washington politicians are among the richest and most financially secure people in America.
Luke 2:25-35
Simeon had been told he would not die before he saw the Lord's Messiah. He says Jesus is "The One."

Is Barack Obama the Messiah?

Luke 2:36-38
Anna the Prophetess is another well-known Godly person who acknowledges that Jesus is the Child promised by the prophets.
Where is the Anna of our day who tells us we can trust Washington D.C. to bring salvation?
Matthew 2:1-8
"Wise men from the East" knew of Micah's prophecy that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem.
Are there any wise men around the world who place their confidence in George Bush, Henry Paulson, Paul Krugman, or Barack Obama?
Matthew 2:9-12
The kings from the east present the Messiah with "gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others.
Matthew 2:13-18
When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power):  he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.

Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

Matthew 28:18-20
Herod's son Antipas played a small role in the execution of Jesus Christ. But Jesus rose from the dead, was enthroned on the throne of David at the right hand of God, and assumed the rightful role of King over all nations.
"Beginning today and culminating on Sunday morning, Christians will celebrate with their families the resurrection of Christ, His victory over death. We will remember that He gave His body and His blood—washing clean the faults and the shortcomings of the world. In our rejoicing we will renew the hope that is ours through the risen Lord."

Listeners' Questions

Bob Harrison - St. Louis
If Christ forbade the use of government force to regulate sins like drug use, why would the Christian Founders allow voters to write amendments that allow the government to do that into the Christian Constitution?
In addition to the discussion during our Town Hall, it should be pointed out that the Christian Founders believed many things which were not Christian, even though they themselves claimed to be Christian. They believed the institution of civil government was a necessary evil, which some Christians (and many libertarians) believe is evil, but not necessary. Jefferson, who called himself a Christian, believed homosexuals should be castrated. No Christian today believes that. They also permitted things which most of them thought should be abolished. Slavery is an obvious example. Arminianism might be another example, if Calvinists thought the government should take action against it, but realized that that same government power might be turned against them (the Calvinists) if the Arminians were to seize power. I am not aware of any position taken by any of the Founding Fathers with regard to government force against drug use. I suspect drunkenness was a crime in every state.

Bob Harrison - St. Louis
Follow-up: if any government (including the US Constitution) is Biblically illegitimate, then why is the constitutionality of any law relevant? Why should I (or we) care? I don't mean this hostilely, but isn't a "constitutional" law of a "government" as unholy as an "unconstitutional" law?
We should force politicians to be consistent. If they take an oath to "support the Constitution," they ought to at least be held to that standard. If they can't be depended on to follow the Constitution, they can't be depended on to follow an even higher standard.

During last week's Town Hall, we mentioned a debate in the Constitutional Convention. Actually we were thinking of a debate in the ratifying convention of North Carolina. The debate can be found here. Our analysis is found here. It is clear from reading the debate that all parties believed America was a Christian nation, and should continue to "add to the progress of the Christian religion among us." They thought the danger of government imposition of religion was greater than the danger of Muslims being elected. They were right. Today's "moral majority" types are wrong. Freedom is essential; government compulsion is more dangerous than that which it seeks to prevent.

Kevin Craig's Platform:

What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?

The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.

Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.

America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.

Muskets are Not an Option

There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.

Revolution Won't Come in a Day

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."
