Welcoming any suffering that comes from doing what is right,
because it will produce a greater power of love.
[French, from cœur, L. cor, the heart]
Bravery; intrepidity; that quality of mind which enables men to
encounter danger and difficulties with firmness, or without fear
or depression of spirits; valor; boldness; resolution. It is a
constituent part of fortitude; but fortitude implies
patience to bear continued suffering.
Courage that grows from
constitution, often forsakes a man when he has occasion
for it; courage which arises from a sense of
duty, acts in a uniform manner. |

Be strong, and of good courage. |
Deut. xxxi
|
Webster's, 1st ed., 1828
Unbelievers lack courage. They
know God exists and they know they are not on good terms
with Him. They sink into powerlessness and depression, or
they foam with unpredictable rage.
I have submitted my life to God. I go where He tells me
to go, knowing that He will sustain me and give me success
even against terrifying opposition.
My commitment to obey the God of the universe gives me
courage.

Joshua 2:10-11 "For
we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red
Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did
to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other
side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly
destroyed. {11} And
as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted;
neither did there remain any more courage
in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God
in heaven above and on earth beneath.

Deuteronomy
31:6 Be strong and of good
courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD
your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not
leave you nor forsake you. |
I face all my problems with great courage, and thus solve them
more easily.
Things which once alarmed me or frightened me now generate a
sense of anticipation, as opportunities for the LORD to manifest His
Strength.
In the face of the uncertain I am made calm by reflecting on
God's grace and comprehensive
predestination.
I am becoming more and more resolute.
My friends know me to be steadfast.
I am not afraid to be courageous in a culture that resents
confident obedience; I am grateful that God gives me courage to be a
light to those who are fearful, over-dependent, and easily led
astray.
People around me can depend on me to be unalarmed.
The Spirit empowers me to be more than a conqueror

There
we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the
giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight,
and so we were in their sight.
Numbers 13:33 |
God is He
who sits above the circle of the earth, And its
inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the
heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent
to dwell in.
Isaiah 40:22

And we know that all things work together for good to those
who love God, to those who are the called according to His
purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be
conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn
among many brethren.
-- Romans 8:28-29
O how love I Thy Law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou
through Thy Commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies. I
have more understanding than all my teachers: for Thy Testimonies
are my meditation.
-- Psalm 119:97
This isn't that New Age
