An Example of Honesty
After studying law and passing the California Bar Exam (said to be the
most difficult Bar Exam in the world), I was completely qualified to be
given a license to practice law. All I had to do was tell a tiny lie.
At least many other attorneys told me it was just a tiny lie, and that
it shouldn't stop me from getting my license to practice law. "Just
do it," I was told.
But as the fabled
cherry-tree chopping President has been heard to say over the generations,
"I cannot tell a lie."
As a result of my commitment to honesty, I lost the opportunity to
pursue a lucrative career as an attorney.
