In presidential election years, the convention adopts the National Campaign Platform of its presidential candidate.

Resolution of the Libertarian National Committee
13 December 1993

WHEREAS millions of Americans desire to purchase such dietiary supplements as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and amino acids;

WHEREAS interested comsumers ought to be able to freely purchase dietary supplements and companies ought to be able to sell these products in the marketplace;

WHEREAS the Food and Drug Administration is making use of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990 to drastically curtail the activities of the dietary supplement industry and to restrict what is available to willing consumers,

WHEREAS the Libertarian Party has long fought for freedom for those who use dietary supplements, health foods, and alternative medicines and medical procedures; and

WHEREAS Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and Representative Bill Richardson of New Mexico have introduced in Congress a bill that would ameliorate the existing heavy-handed regulatory regime of the FDA;

THEREFORE be it resolved that the Libertarian National Committee supports passage ot the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1993 (S. 784 / H.R. 1709).
