Tips and Instructions for Searching:
Selecting "Match all of the words" will locate documents on the
site which contain every word within the search field (Boolean and).
"Match any of the words" will locate documents containing one or
more of your chosen search keywords (Boolean or).
Boolean searches are possible. A Boolean search may use
not, and, or and parentheses. The result will be one
set of matches. Note that the operator not is used as the word
"without" in a search: You can NOT write membership and not
drive or just not drive but you CAN
write membership not drive.
Results are ranked according to the weight of the words that caused the
match and the weight of the algorithm that generated the word. Word weights
are generally determined by the importance of the word in a document. For
example, words in the title of a document have a much higher weight than
words at the bottom of the document.
You can use parentheses to focus your search to denote certain
relationships, for example:
candidate and (senate or california)
This search would bring up results containing candidate and
senate OR results that contain candidate and california OR
results that contain candidate and senate and california.
(candidate and senate) or california
This search would bring up results that contain candidate
and senate OR results that contain headquarters OR results
that contain candidate and senate and california.
This search engine currently does not recognize near in a search
expression, nor does it recognize symbols (¦, &,
or !). It will ignore commas, single quotes and double quotes. This
means that searching for phrases contained in quotes may yield unexpected
results.
