A Discussion of The President's Saturday Morning Radio Address

Notes and Summary of the President's Saturday Radio Address:
"Lessons and Renewal Out of the Gulf Coast"

The White House Press Office: The President discusses the steps being taken to finish the job of recovery from Hurricane Katrina as the fourth anniversary approaches.  He points to local citizens working hard alongside responsible government to make real progress in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, and pledges that the lessons of Katrina will not be forgotten.   (continued below)

How the President Differs from the American vision of "Liberty Under God":

  • The Constitution:
    • Most politicians who take an oath to "support the Constitution" are ignorant of its most basic assumptions:
      • The federal government only has the powers granted to it -- "enumerated" -- in the Constitution.
      • The "General Welfare" clause is no exception to this principle.
      • "States Rights" -- most government should be carried out on a local level.
    • The Constitution created a federal government with very limited powers, bound down by the "chains of the constitution." The Bush-Obama Regime believes it has vast, unlimited powers to cure all diseases, fund all causes, and bring salvation.

  • The Free Market:

    • America's Founders spoke of America as "an Experiment in Liberty" (1787-1887)
      • The "experiment" was a success: a Free Market made America the most prosperous and admired nation in history. "Capitalism" means freedom.
    • In the 20th century, the experiment in liberty was replaced with another experiment: an experiment in central planning
    • The original American dream of personal, private ownership, has been replaced with private indebtedness and public control.
    • The Invisible Hand of the Free Market works better than the Visible Fist of Government
    • America was founded on the philosophy of "Liberty Under God."
      • "Liberty" means freedom from government suppression of ideas and confiscation of wealth
      • "Under God" means we have a personal responsibility to love God and neighbor.
    • The original American Dream: Everyone dwelling safely under his own Vine & Fig Tree
      • Human beings are endowed with the right to property by God, not the government.
    • America was founded as a "City upon a Hill," a Christian nation from which the Gospel would be promoted around the world.
  • Socialized Health
    • Capitalism, not socialism, creates quality health care.
    • Health care reforms should decrease, not increase, government involvement.
      • No Government licensing of doctors and other healthcare providers.
      • No transformation of insurance into welfare.
  • Time for Revolution?

Saturday Morning Radio Address

Another Perspective:
"
Liberty Under God"

This weekend marks the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast. As we remember all that was lost, we must take stock of the work being done on recovery, while preparing for future disasters. And that is what I want to speak with you about today.

As always, who is "we?" Who should prepare for the future? Who should bailout those who did not? These are questions we've asked here.

None of us can forget how we felt when those winds battered the shore, the floodwaters began to rise, and Americans were stranded on rooftops and in stadiums. Over a thousand people would lose their lives. Over a million people were displaced. Whole neighborhoods of a great American city were left in ruins. Communities across the Gulf Coast were forever changed. And many Americans questioned whether government could fulfill its responsibility to respond in a crisis, or contribute to a recovery that covered parts of four states. There is nothing in the Constitution that gives the government the "responsibility to respond in a crisis, or contribute to a recovery."

The facts are bold and inescapable:

Since taking office in January, my Administration has focused on helping citizens finish the work of rebuilding their lives and communities, while taking steps to prevent similar catastrophes going forward. Our approach is simple: government must keep its responsibility to the people, so that Americans have the opportunity to take responsibility for their future.  Again, the federal government has no such responsibility. Washington D.C. only gets in the way of informed local efforts, or exercises unconstitutional authority in local affairs.
That is the work that we are doing. To date, eleven members of my Cabinet have visited the Gulf Coast, and I’m looking forward to going to New Orleans later this year. To complete a complex recovery that addresses nearly every sector of society, we have prioritized coordination among different federal agencies, and with state and local governments. No more turf wars – all of us need to move forward together, because there is much more work to be done. It is impossible for a centralized, socialist approach to "nearly every sector of society" to be as effective as local efforts in those sectors of society. The residents of New Orleans have more information, house by house, block by block, and neighborhood by neighborhood by neighborhood, than the "experts" in Washington do, even if eleven -- count them! -- eleven members of the cabinet personally visit the area.
Politicians will always create political "turf wars," because "power corrupts."
I have also made it clear that we will not tolerate red tape that stands in the way of progress, or the waste that can drive up the bill. Government must be a partner – not an opponent – in getting things done.  That is why we have put in place innovative review and dispute resolution programs to expedite recovery efforts, and have freed up hundreds of millions of dollars of federal assistance that had not been distributed. This is allowing us to move forward with stalled projects across the Gulf Coast – building and improving schools; investing in public health and safety; and repairing broken roads, bridges and homes. And this effort has been dramatically amplified by the Recovery Act, which has put thousands of Gulf Coast residents to work. "Red tape" and "waste" are inherent in socialist approaches to social needs. Government is an opponent of liberty and an obstacle to material progress.
As we complete this effort, we see countless stories of citizens holding up their end of the bargain.  In New Orleans, hundreds of kids just started the school year at Langston Hughes elementary, the first school built from scratch since Katrina. The St. Bernard Project has drawn together volunteers to rebuild hundreds of homes, where people can live with dignity and security. To cite just one hopeful indicator, New Orleans is the fastest growing city in America, as many who had been displaced are now coming home. In stark contrast to government.
 • Volunteers work from the heart.
 • Bureaucrats get paid.
As we rebuild and recover, we must also learn the lessons of Katrina, so that our nation is more protected and resilient in the face of disaster. That means continuing to rebuild hundreds of miles of levees and floodwalls around New Orleans, and working to strengthen the wetlands and barrier islands that are the Gulf Coast’s first line of defense. In Washington, that means a focus on competence and accountability – and I’m proud that my FEMA Administrator has 25 years of experience in disaster management in Florida, a state that has known its share of hurricanes. And across the country, that means improving coordination among different agencies, modernizing our emergency communications, and helping families plan for a crisis. Why do we trust the same folks to rebuild the defenses which failed the first time around? Political decisions are never as good as economic decisions rooted in personal responsibility.
On this anniversary, we are focused on the threat from hurricanes. But we must also be prepared for a broad range of dangers – from wildfires and earthquakes, to terrorist attacks and pandemic disease. In particular, my Administration is working aggressively with state and local governments – and with partners around the world – to prepare for the risk posed by the H1N1 virus.  To learn more about the simple steps that you can take to keep you and your family safe from all of these dangers, please visit www.ready.gov. This week's address is beginning to look like an excuse for expanding government power, setting us up for swine flu disasters, government-caused wildfires, and government-incited and exploited "terrorist" acts.
So on this day, we commemorate a tragedy that befell our people. But we also remember that with every tragedy comes the chance of renewal. It is a quintessentially American notion – that adversity can give birth to hope, and that the lessons of the past hold the key to a better future. From the streets of New Orleans to the Mississippi Coast, folks are beginning the next chapter in their American stories. And together, we can ensure that the legacy of a terrible storm is a country that is safer and more prepared for the challenges that may come. Thank you.

Listeners' Questions

Joe from Florida asks:
I have heard many reports that the elderly already on Medicare will be forced into a share the benefit policy, and not have the same benefits they had before this reformed health care policy goes through, is that true or false?

This may depend on the bill that is finally adopted. There are several versions right now. Here is a candidate who makes that claim. The claim appears to be true, though cuts in one area may be "balanced" by new programs, "enhanced" care in other areas, etc., according to the Obama Administration. Two facts should be kept in mind:

  1. For all intents and purposes, Medicare is going to be abolished. The only question is when. If you're already receiving benefits under Medicare, the question is, "Will I continue to receive benefits until I die?"
  2. If the government wants to spread out health care benefits to an additional 47 million people (who aren't getting any now), then those who are getting benefits now will have to share them with the newbies. Some laws of economics are as certain as the law of gravity. This is one of them.

The more the government is involved in the healthcare industry, the lower the quality of health care Americans will receive.

Restoring America's Greatness by
Celebrating Christmas all year long

The Message of Christmas and the Principles set forth by the Christ (the Messiah) who came that first Christmas are the real solution to America's problems. The Federal Government is at war with Christmas and "The Way of Peace" announced by the Prince of Peace.

John 1:1-18 - The Incarnation
The Word became flesh. The Creator of the universe becomes a human being. He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, preferring darkness rather than light.
"The State is God walking on Earth"

The 2 parties are cooperating rival sects in the world's most powerful religious cult.

Luke 1:1-4
Eyewitnesses of the Messiah recorded their testimony. Co-Founder of the Harvard Law School says their testimony would prove the resurrection in any court of law in America, at one time a Christian nation.
No longer a Christian nation, American courts routinely release the guilty and condemn the innocent.
Matthew 1:1-17
Jesus was a descendant of King David.
Obama is a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Luke 3:23-38
Jesus was a descendant of Abraham.
All those who submit to Jesus as the Messiah (the rightful king of the earth) inherit the promises made to Abraham
Those who reject the Messiah do not inherit the promises made to Abraham, even though Bush defends their right to do so.
Luke 1:5-25
John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah, as prophesied of Elijah.
As you read the Gospel accounts, ask yourself how you would react if you knew these accounts were really true. Not just true in some "religious" sense, but reported in the New York Times, proven in a court of law, or acknowledged by your personal hero.  (How do you know something is true? Do you even have any "heroes?") How should you change your life if your Creator became a human being? How should Washington D.C. react if this human being claimed to be the true Ruler?
Luke 1:26-38
The Angel Gabriel announces the conception of the Messiah, who will be given the throne of David.
Luke 1:39-45
The unborn John recognizes the mother of the Messiah.
Bush-Obama would chop the unborn John and the unborn Jesus into stem cells for "medical research."
Luke 1:46-56 - "The Magnificat"
“He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.” Luke 1:51
The Bush Administration is filled with the power-hungry, who commit adultery in reality or in fantasy.
Luke 1:67-80
Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, prophecies the birth of Jesus the anti-king.
The expectations of Zacharias are 180° opposite those of the Bush-Obama Administration.
Matthew 1:18-25
Joseph told about the Incarnation.
"Jesus" means "salvation"
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
The Bush Administration thinks it brings salvation.

Obama thinks he is Immanuel.

Luke 2:1-7
The Prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus' parents lived in Nazereth. Therefore God predestined Caesar to issue a decree (probably relating to taxes) that would bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem before Jesus was born.
Bush claims the same global power of confiscation and migration as Caesar did. Thousands of Christians have been forced to move out of Iraq to make way for Bush's Islamic Theocracy.
Luke 2:8-14
An army of angels announces the birth of the Messiah, saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace to those with whom He is pleased!”
Man's chief end is to glorify God and live in peace. The Bush Administration's chief end is to erect a "wall of separation" between God and government so that the State gives no glory to God, and to wage war, thereby "stimulating the economy."
Luke 2:15-20
“Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
Washington D.C. isn't listening.
Luke 2:22-24
Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to obey Leviticus 12:8, which suggests that they were not rich.
Washington politicians are among the richest and most financially secure people in America.
Luke 2:25-35
Simeon had been told he would not die before he saw the Lord's Messiah. He says Jesus is "The One."

Is Barack Obama the Messiah?

Luke 2:36-38
Anna the Prophetess is another well-known Godly person who acknowledges that Jesus is the Child promised by the prophets.
Where is the Anna of our day who tells us we can trust Washington D.C. to bring salvation?
Matthew 2:1-8
"Wise men from the East" knew of Micah's prophecy that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem.
Are there any wise men around the world who place their confidence in George Bush, Henry Paulson, Paul Krugman, or Barack Obama?
Matthew 2:9-12
The kings from the east present the Messiah with "gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others.
Matthew 2:13-18
When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power):  he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.

Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

The Republican Party Radio Address:

Response of the Republican Party
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Saturday, August 29, 2009

In the Republican Radio Address, Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi criticized the President's plan to socialize healthcare.
Hello, I’m Mike Enzi, from the State of Wyoming and the Ranking Member of the Senate’s Health Committee.
Before I begin my remarks I want to acknowledge the loss of a great leader this week - one who’s influenced policy for almost half a century. Senator Ted Kennedy has been a tireless champion on a wide range of important issues and his voice will be missed in the Senate.  Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time.
Edward M. Kennedy was a bad human being.

What is the definition of a "great leader?" In what direction did he "influence policy?" Of what laws -- good or evil -- was he a "tireless champion?" Why will his voice be missed? Kennedy was the antithesis of everything Republicans are supposed to stand for. Why eulogize him?

The Republican Party Is Evil

I would now like to take a few minutes to speak with you about the current health care reform debate in America.  Across the country, people are concerned about the reform bills Democrats have proposed. I heard a lot of frustration and anger as I traveled across my home state this last few weeks.  I know my colleagues in the Senate have also heard loud and clear the worries so many Americans have about the changes to their health care being considered.
People in Wyoming and across the country are anxious about what Washington has in mind.
This is one of the most important debates of our lifetime.
If Congress and the administration mess this up, each and every one of us will pay for the mistakes, as will generations to come.
We need health care reform - but more importantly, we need to get it right.  We need reforms that will actually lower health care costs for working Americans and we need to make sure we do not increase the deficit and add to the record debt we’re already passing on to our children and grandchildren.
The bills introduced by Congressional Democrats fail to meet these standards.
According to the non-partisan and independent Congressional Budget Office, the House and Senate bills will actually drive up heath care costs.  The Congressional Budget Office also says that the Democrats’ bill will significantly increase our nation's deficit.
Take a minute to think about that.
The Democrats are trying to rush a bill through the process that will actually make our nation’s finances sicker without saving you money.  The American people are growing increasingly concerned about out of control spending in Washington that’s leaving us with trillions of dollars of debt.
These bills also raid Medicare.  This will result in cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from the elderly to create new government programs.  Savings from Medicare should only be used to strengthen Medicare. Medicare was a bad idea that should be abolished.
The bills would expand comparative effectiveness research that would be used to limit or deny care based on age or disability of patients.  Republican amendments in the HELP Committee would have protected Americans by prohibiting the rationing of their health care.  The Democrats showed their true intent by voting every amendment down and leaving these unacceptable provisions in the bill. This intrusion of a Washington bureaucrat in the relationship between a doctor and a patient is not the kind of reform that Americans are seeking.
People across America are telling Congress that current health care bills are the wrong approach and that there should be a course correction on health care reform.  They’ve said we need to scrap these flawed bills and take the time to develop the real solutions that the American people want and need.
We need to enact common sense reform that will actually cut costs. Greta Van Susteren to Michael Steele: Why Didn't Republicans Do Health Care Reform When They Ran the Show? | Video Cafe

Kennedy and health care, then and now

More and better choices of competing health plans should be available, so you can find the plan that meets your needs at a price you can afford.
It’s important that we help small businesses provide affordable coverage for their workers.  One way to do this is to give small businesses the power to band together across the country and use their combined negotiating power to find quality, affordable insurance plans.
We should also reform our current tax system, which drives up costs and makes it difficult for individuals to purchase insurance on their own.  Everyone should get a health care tax advantage or no one should. Why have Republicans never passed simple reforms like this, even when they controlled all three branches of government?
We need to reform our flawed medical liability system and eliminate junk lawsuits against doctors and hospitals.  Unnecessary lawsuits cause extra costs and drive up health care costs.
We need to incentivize healthy lifestyle and push for a greater awareness of the importance of prevention rather than increasing sick care.
And, we need to provide patients with more and better information about the price and quality of their health care services, so they can make the right choices for their families.
America is a country of choices.  We’re a nation of people who want the ability to choose what will best fit our families’ needs and it should be that way with health care too.  These are the kinds of health care reforms that the American people want to see, and that’s the kind of change I hear that people want as I travel across Wyoming.  A government monopoly just doesn’t serve us best.
I hope the President and the Democratic-controlled Congress will reject the go-it-alone path that they are currently on.  If they do, we’ll have a chance to truly work on a real bill that will address those critical issues.  Then we can bring about the reform necessary to decrease health care costs and increase access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans.

What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?

The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.

Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.

America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.

Muskets are Not an Option

There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.

Revolution Won't Come in a Day

John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."
