President Obama's
Saturday Morning Radio Address

Another Perspective:
"Liberty Under God"
|
|
|
Last week, I spent a few days in California, talking with ordinary Americans in town halls and in the places where they work. We talked about their struggles, and we talked about their hopes. At the end of the day, these men and women weren’t as concerned with the news of the day in Washington as they were about the very real and very serious challenges their families face every day: whether they’ll have a job and a paycheck to count on; whether they’ll be able to pay their medical bills or afford college tuition; whether they’ll be able to leave their children a world that’s safer and more prosperous than the one we have now. |
Obama wants America to be in a state of fear. The government can then be our savior.
Polls come to the aid of the government by asking people what they think about the "nation's" economy, or "our" prospects for the future. People dutifully report that "we" are in trouble. But when asked about their own personal state, 66% of Americans are optimistic, not pessimistic.
Americans need to become aware of the fact that they are not the government. The federal government is a foreign invader.
|
Those are the concerns I heard about in California. They are the concerns I’ve heard about in letters from people throughout this country for the last two years. And they are the concerns addressed in the budget I sent to Congress last month. |
|
With the magnitude of the challenges we face, I don’t just view this budget as numbers on a page or a laundry list of programs. It’s an economic blueprint for our future – a vision of America where growth is not based on real estate bubbles or overleveraged banks, but on a firm foundation of investments in energy, education, and health care that will lead to a real and lasting prosperity. |
Whose money is being "invested" in Obama's budget? See that link for a debunking of the concept of government "investments." |
These investments are not a wish list of priorities that I picked out of thin air – they are a central part of a comprehensive strategy to grow this economy by attacking the very problems that have dragged it down for too long: the high cost of health care and our dependence on foreign oil; our education deficit and our fiscal deficit. |
|
Now, as the House and the Senate take up this budget next week, the specific details and dollar amounts in this budget will undoubtedly change. That’s a normal and healthy part of the process. |
|
But when all is said and done, I expect a budget that meets four basic principles: |
|
First, it must reduce our dependence on dangerous foreign oil and finally put this nation on a path to a clean, renewable energy future. |
Should America reduce "our" dependence on "dangerous" foreign oil? No.
Should America reduce "our" dependence on dangerous foreign bananas, or dangerous foreign coffee?
Getting what we need from the cheapest source is good for our economy. "Dependence" is good. Self-sufficiency is not. "Victory Gardens" are not a sign of prosperity.
The White House - Blog Post - Spring Gardening
What makes foreign oil "dangerous?" Does it cause a sludge buildup in the carburetor, unlike safe domestic oil? No, it's dangerous (I assume) because it brings prosperity to governments which are "pro-terrorist." Like Saudi Arabia, recipient of billions of dollars in weapons of mass destruction from the U.S. federal government.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Energy,
The top sources of US crude oil imports for December were Canada (2.033 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.394 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.126 million barrels per day), Venezuela (1.028 million barrels per day), and Nigeria (0.869 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Angola (0.553 million barrels per day), Iraq (0.519 million barrels per day), Ecuador (0.252 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.235 million barrels per day), and Brazil (0.208 million barrels per day).
What's so "dangerous" about getting oil from Canada? From Mexico, Ecuador, or Brazil? Venezuela is ruled by a clinically insane socialist dictator, but how is buying oil from Venezuela "dangerous?" Suppose Obama followed Thomas Jefferson's model and sent Christian missionaries to Venezuela so that the people of that nation would throw off their socialist dictator? Isn't that a better solution than crippling our economy by buying more expensive oil from another "safer" country? Or not being allowed to buy oil at all? |
There is no longer a doubt that the jobs and industries of tomorrow will involve harnessing renewable sources of energy. The only question is whether America will lead that future. I believe we can and we will, and that’s why we’ve proposed a budget that makes clean energy the profitable kind of energy, while investing in technologies like wind power and solar power; advanced biofuels, clean coal, and fuel-efficient cars and trucks that can be built right here in America. |
More dangerous than oil from Canada and Brazil are the ideas about "renewable" energy from environmentalists.
Rather than "investing" in primitive technology like wind and solar energy, a policy which will cause poverty and death to millions of human beings, let's stop investing in foreign dictatorships like Saudi Arabia, so that buying their oil is not "dangerous." Then let the Free Market create clean energy from nuclear and magnetic sources.
|
Second, this budget must renew our nation’s commitment to a complete and competitive education for every American child. In this global economy, we know the countries that out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow, and we know that our students are already falling behind their counterparts in places like China. That is why we have proposed investments in childhood education programs that work; in high standards and accountability for our schools; in rewards for teachers who succeed; and in affordable college education for anyone who wants to go. It is time to demand excellence from our schools so that we can finally prepare our workforce for a 21st century economy. |
Government-run education is not just unnecessary, like a government-run mail service. Government schools are the heart of America's problems. It isn't just the violence and the drugs in schools. It isn't just illiteracy or lack of math skills that hurt Americans. It's the fact that government schools are atheistic schools where it is illegal to teach children that the Declaration of Independence is really, objectively, true.
"Demanding excellence" from a government bureaucracy is like demanding excellence from the Soviet socialist refrigerator industry. The product will always be inferior to the same product produced in a capitalistic Free Market industry.
|
Third, we need a budget that makes a serious investment in health care reform – reform that will bring down costs, ensure quality, and guarantee people their choice of doctors and hospitals. Right now, there are millions of Americans who are just one illness or medical emergency away from bankruptcy. There are businesses that have been forced to close their doors or ship jobs overseas because they can’t afford insurance. Medicare costs are consuming our federal budget. Medicaid is overwhelming our state budgets. So to those who say we have to choose between health care reform and fiscal discipline, I say that making investments now that will
dramatically lower health care costs for everyone won’t add to our budget deficit in the long-term – it is one of the best ways to reduce it. |
The only government "reform" that will "bring down costs, ensure quality, and guarantee people their choice of doctors and hospitals," is eliminating government regulations and innovations like the HMO that raised costs, brought down quality, and eliminated patient choice.
But instead of eliminating all the government "reforms" that reduced the quality of America's Free Market healthcare system, Obama wants new, additional "reforms" that will make America's healthcare industry more like that of the Soviet Union.
|
Finally, this budget must reduce that deficit even further. With the fiscal mess we’ve inherited and the cost of this financial crisis, I’ve proposed a budget that cuts our deficit in half by the end of my first term. That’s why we are scouring every corner of the budget and have proposed $2 trillion in deficit reductions over the next decade. |
$2 trillion in cuts over the next 10 years = $200 billion in cuts each year, out of annual budgets of $3 trillion or more. This is peanuts. For years Citizens Against Government Waste has been making modest proposals to cut nearly $300 billion in federal programs. Obama sounds bold, but he's actually a pansy when it comes to cutting government programs.
The CAGW report does not even consider the entire topic of unconstitutional programs which violate the principle of "enumerated powers."
|
In total, our budget would bring discretionary spending for domestic programs as a share of the economy to its lowest level in nearly half a century. And we will continue making these tough choices in the months and years ahead so that as our economy recovers, we do what we must to bring this deficit down. |
Half a century ago there was no personal computer industry to speak of. The economy is much larger, and so are Obama's domestic spending programs. |
I will be discussing each of these principles next week, as Congress takes up the important work of debating this budget. I realize there are those who say these plans are too ambitious to enact. To that I say that the challenges we face are too large to ignore. I didn’t come here to pass on our problems to the next President or the next generation – I came here to solve them. |
|
The American people sent us here to get things done, and at this moment of great challenge, they are watching and waiting for us to lead. Let’s show them that we are equal to the task before us, and let’s pass a budget that puts this nation on the road to lasting prosperity. |

Kevin Craig's Platform:
- "Vine & Fig Tree" - the original American Dream - work, profit, save, invest, enjoy - not "easy to borrow," perpetual debt; not "invade other nations" to secure our own wealth.
- No more Bailouts
- No more inflation
- No more wasteful government spending. (Or do I repeat myself?)

- The Word became flesh. The Creator of the universe becomes a human being. He came to His own, but His own did not receive Him, preferring darkness rather than light.

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power
|
- Luke 3:23-38
- Jesus was a descendant of Abraham.
All those who submit to Jesus as the Messiah (the rightful king of the earth) inherit the promises made to Abraham
|
Those who reject the Messiah do not inherit the promises made to Abraham, even though Bush defends their right to do so. |
- Luke 1:5-25
- John the Baptist prepares the way for the Messiah, as prophesied of Elijah.
|
As you read the Gospel accounts, ask yourself how you would react if you knew these accounts were really true. Not just true in some "religious" sense, but reported in the New York Times, proven in a court of law, or acknowledged by your personal hero. (How do you know something is true? Do you even have any "heroes?") How should you change your life if your Creator became a human being? How should Washington D.C. react if this human being claimed to be the true Ruler? |
- Luke 1:26-38
- The Angel Gabriel announces the conception of the Messiah, who will be given the throne of David.
|
- Luke 1:39-45

- Matthew 1:18-25
- Joseph told about the Incarnation.
"Jesus" means "salvation"
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
|
The Bush Administration thinks it brings salvation.
Obama thinks he is Immanuel.
|
- Luke 2:1-7
- The Prophet Micah predicted that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Jesus' parents lived in Nazereth. Therefore God predestined Caesar to issue a decree (probably relating to taxes) that would bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem before Jesus was born.
|
Bush claims the same global power of confiscation and migration as Caesar did. Thousands of Christians have been forced to move out of Iraq to make way for Bush's Islamic Theocracy. |
- Luke 2:8-14
- An army of angels announces the birth of the Messiah, saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace to those with whom He is pleased!”
|
Man's chief end is to glorify God and live in peace. The Bush Administration's chief end is to erect a "wall of separation" between God and government so that the State gives no glory to God, and to wage war, thereby "stimulating the economy." |
- Luke 2:15-20
- “Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds.”
|
Washington D.C. isn't listening. |
- Luke 2:22-24
- Joseph and Mary went to Jerusalem to obey Leviticus 12:8, which suggests that they were not rich.
|
Washington politicians are among the richest and most financially secure people in America. |
- Luke 2:36-38
- Anna the Prophetess is another well-known Godly person who acknowledges that Jesus is the Child promised by the prophets.
|
Where is the Anna of our day who tells us we can trust Washington D.C. to bring salvation? |
- Matthew 2:1-8
- "Wise men from the East" knew of Micah's prophecy that the King of the Jews would be born in Bethlehem.
|
Are there any wise men around the world who place their confidence in George Bush, Henry Paulson, Paul Krugman, or Barack Obama? |
- Matthew 2:9-12
- The kings from the east present the Messiah with "gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
|
Rather than bestowing wealth on the King, Obama-Bush confiscates the wealth of others. |
- Matthew 2:13-18
- When Herod got word of the birth of a rival king, he behaved in a perfectly logical way (for someone who wants to protect his power): he massacred all male babies the age of Jesus. Herod recognized that Jesus was a threat to Herod's power.
|
Every day in America 4,000 unborn babies are murdered. These babies must threaten something.
Millions of Americans who call themselves Christians, on the other hand, are no threat to tyranny. None of them are being killed. Bush has killed a thousand times more human beings than Herod did, and confiscated a billion times more wealth than Herod did.

Response of the Republican Party

RNC: Governor Haley Barbour (R-MS) Delivers Weekly Republican Address |
|
"Hi, I'mHaley Barbour. It's budget time for a lot of states, and we governors, Republicans and Democrats alike, are working to balance our budgets. |
|
"Though the stimulus package spends an incredible amount of money, with some of it going to state governments, the mandates about how we have to spend much of that money, plus the severe drop in most states' revenue, mean all governors are preparing a wide variety of significant spending cuts to balance our budgets. |
This Republican address could just as easily have been given any time during the last 8 years: |
"With the federal government it's just the opposite: President Obama's budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. |
"With the federal government it's just the opposite: President Bush's budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much." |
"It's breathtaking: The new Administration's budget for next year alone calls for a one point two TRILLION dollar deficit ... nearly triple any past federal deficit. |
Most everything Barbour says is true, but he (and the Republicans) are complete hypocrites for saying them. |
"While families are cutting back, President Obama has proposed a massive government spending spree. It reminds me of how one of our old senators used to joke about the federal budget. He said it was like a newborn baby: insatiable appetite at one end and total irresponsibility at the other. |
|
"This astronomical record federal deficit would be accompanied by the largest tax increases in history. But trillions of new taxes won't nearly cover all the new spending, so our children and grandchildren will be saddled with trillions more in debt. |
|
"And this budget blowout comes on top of the debt for the $787 billion Obama stimulus package, the$410 billion omnibus appropriations bill passed by Congress this month, the$300 billion the Federal Reserve said this week it would spend to buy U.S. government bonds, and the$750 billion the Fed announced just Wednesday it would spend to buy mortgage-backed securities. Trillions and trillions in new spending mean record tax increases and record government debt. |
|
"The cap and trade tax and other energy taxes will drive up both electricity and gasoline prices for families and for businesses. And while Wall Street gets trillions to bail them out, small businesses will get stuck with not only income tax increases but also enormous cost increases for energy: for electricity and gasoline. Families will get clobbered, too. |
|
"Don't take my word for it; listen to whatBarack Obama himself told The San Francisco Chronicle last year, and I quote: Under my plan of cap and trade, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. |
|
"And President Obama was right. His energy taxes, like the cap and trade tax, will drive energy costs for American families through the roof. |
|
"In this budget season we have choices. While states are controlling spending and balancing their budgets, the Obama budget spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much. It's not the right choice for America." |
|
What Would America's Founding Fathers Do?
The men who threw tea into the Boston Harbor over a tax of 3 pence per pound would not be happy with a tax ten times greater on every gallon of gas. Those who took up muskets over a total tax burden of less than 3% would not be happy with the fact that the federal government now takes more than half of everything you earn.
Today it is illegal for public school teachers to teach their students that the Declaration of Independence is really true (and not just an outdated historical document). The federal government is clearly at war with everything the Founding Fathers stood for.
America's greatest Americans would abolish today's federal government.
Muskets are Not an Option
There are two reasons why we should not take up arms to pull off the violent overthrow of the federal government, even if America's Founders would surely do so. First, the feds have nukes. Second, violent revolution is unChristian and unBiblical. We must beat our swords into plowshares and use persuasion to abolish tyranny. This is time for a revolution of ideas.
Revolution Won't Come in a Day
John Adams once wrote that the American Revolution began in 1761, when Massachusetts attorney James Otis began legal challenges to the Writs of Assistance. He lost the case, but "American independence," Adams wrote, "was then and there born." Now do the math. That means it took 15 years to convince the rest of America to declare Independence (1776). Then another seven years of war was required before a Peace Treaty was signed (1783), and then six
years before the Constitution was finally ratified (1789). That's almost 30 years. (And Jefferson said we shouldn't go 20 years without another rebellion!) How can we hope to convince Americans to fight for principles they were never taught in government schools? We need to be in this battle for the long term. "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty."

Help End the Mexican Civil War
Black-market profits caused by drug prohibition fund a civil war in Mexico that's threatening to spill over our borders. Drug profits also fuel the terrorists who are killing U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. It's time to dry up the black-market profits. It's time to end drug prohibition.

Stop the Killer Horse Hormones
The FDA "outlawed" the use of Estriol, an estrogen medication that's bio-identical to human estrogen. Doctors must now prescribe animal-derived estrogen instead. Are bio-identical hormones dangerous, while animal-derived hormones are safe? No. The practice of medicine is moving to chemically identical to human hormones and away from animal hormones. Learn why the FDA decided to endanger women's health in this way, and take action. |
End Asset Forfeiture
If the government suspects you used your house or car in a crime, they can take it and sell it at auction. They don't even have to prove your guilt. They call this practice civil asset forfeiture, but it's really theft. It violates the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 14th Amendments. It also encourages law enforcement to put profits before justice. Tell Congress to end civil asset forfeiture.

"Cap and Trade" is not the way
The politicians seem to be unifying around "cap and trade" as a way to cut CO2 emissions.
